A well earned point in a 1-1 draw away at Wolves last Saturday ended Southampton’s worrying 3-match losing streak which would have been a welcome result for fans, players and not least, manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl as his side still avoid dropping down into the bottom three – for now.
Last season ended with an air of optimism for this new campaign as Hasenhuttl steered Saints away from possible relegation as the south coast club suffered just 3 defeats out of their last 9 matches of the last campaign.
However, this season has started in pretty ordinary fashion as Southampton have gained just 2 league wins from their first 9 matches of this new term, which have both been achieved away from home at Brighton 2-0 and Sheffield United 1-0, which means Friday night’s hosts are still looking for their first home win of the season.
Recent defeats to Bournemouth, Tottenham and Chelsea have added fuel to the fire, and at St Mary’s stadium, Saints have managed just 1 win out of their last 8 matches, which was a 3-1 victory against Wolves back in April of last season.
Leicester City Prediction – Can Leicester City jump into 2nd spot?
If Leicester City take all three points on the south coast on Friday night, The Foxes will jump into 2nd place on the Premier League table behind leaders Liverpool, albeit overnight ahead of this weekend’s top flight action.
This alone should be incentive enough for Brendan Rodgers’ side as he looks to register a fourth win in five matches with the east midlands club, and confidence will be high as Leicester City bounced straight back from their recent defeat away at Liverpool.
It wasn’t the kind of return Brendan Rodgers had been dreaming about as his side suffered a 2-1 loss at Anfield but he’ll have been pleased by his team’s reaction to that defeat last weekend when they recorded a 2-1 home win against Burnley, especially as The Foxes went a goal down early on.
