Southampton Preview – Can the Saints continue their superb recent revival with a win in the cup?

Since their embarrassing mauling at the King Power Stadium, Southampton have improved tenfold. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have won eight of their last 12 in all competitions. Meanwhile, since drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace a few days after Christmas, the Saints have won four of five league and cup matches.

In the previous round of the FA Cup, Southampton beat EFL Championship side Huddersfield Town. It was an easy victory at St Mary’s, with Will Smallbone and Jake Votkins getting the goals against the Terries.

Our betting prediction:
Under 2.5 goals

A few months ago, in spite of Spurs’ poor away record, I would have had this down as an away banker. However, a lot has changed at St Mary’s lately. Southampton’s recent revival has taken them away from the bottom three and up to ninth. Can they see off Premier League opposition in the FA Cup this weekend?

Tottenham Hotspur Preview – Can Spurs claim just a fourth away victory of the season on Saturday?

Tottenham Hotspur have had a mixed bag of results and performances since Jose Mourinho made the move to London. However, the Lilywhites picked up a precious three points in the Premier League last time out, beating Norwich City 2-1 at home.

Mourinho started with three consecutive wins, but Spurs have only won five of the subsequent 13 league and cup matches. One of those wins was an FA Cup victory over Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough. Having been held to a 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium, Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela scored in a 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a replay.

Tottenham do not win many away from home. Spurs have sealed just three away victories this season, winning at Red Star Belgrade (UEFA Champions League), West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Can the Lilywhites secure a rare win on the road this Saturday?

Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Betting Advice

Southampton edged a close encounter when the pair met at St Mary’s on New Year’s Day, with an early Danny Ings goal giving the Saints a 1-0 win. Tottenham have not won on Southampton’s patch since Dele Alli (2), Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son scored in an emphatic 4-1 league victory back in December 2016.

Key Facts – Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tip

  • Southampton have won four of their last seven at St Mary’s
  • The Saints beat Spurs 1-0 in the Premier League on New Year’s Day
  • Tottenham have picked up a meagre three away victories this season

Southampton really are in tip-top shape at the moment, and Hasenhuttl’s boys will fancy their chances of beating unpredictable Tottenham on Saturday. Put some money on the home win at 7/4.

Danny Ings, who got the only goal of the game earlier in the month, has been in red-hot form lately. The 27-year-old has helped himself to 15 goals in his last 19 outings. You can get 6/5 for Ings to score anytime this weekend.
