An improving Milan will be looking to keep the pressure on their Europa-League chasing rivals when they travel to SPAL who are almost certainly going to be playing in Serie B next season.

SPAL Preview – Can bottom of the table SPAL spring a surprise to keep faint survival hopes alive?

Football may have resumed in Italy but it has done little to change the fortunes of SPAL. No points in their first two games back and they find themselves having dropped a spot to sit bottom. They’re seven points from safety and it’s looking increasingly likely that their three year stay in Serie A will be coming to an end.

SPAL’s last eight games have seen them win only one match and lose the rest. That’s form which is always going to have them in trouble and it seems unlikely they have it in them to find the wins they need and turn things around.

You have to go back to to the beginning of October for their last home win. That came at home to Parma who, incidentally, their most recent win came against as well. That is one of two homes victories in Serie A and another indication of how much they have struggled this season.

More recently, it’s six straight home losses where they have scored just three goals. It’s only slight consolation but five of their last seven losses at home have been by the odd goal. That could suggest they are competitive but a losing habit is hard to break.

Milan Preview – Are Milan set to continue winning ways to stay in the hunt for Europa League qualification?

It may not have been the season Milan were hoping for at the outset but there are reasons to be optimistic for the remainder of this campaign and what comes next. Following a narrow exit in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia, the San Siro club have won their first two games in Serie A following the break. An impressive 4-1 win away to Lecce was then followed by a 2-0 success against top-six rivals Roma.

The latter of those victories is the most significant coming against another top team which is where they have struggled this season and in previous campaigns.

What Milan look like for next season remains to be seen with talk of an overhaul of their footballing structure but there is something to work with in this squad. Ante Rebic is perhaps the most inform play just now scoring six goals in his last eight games. He’s filling a void caused by the injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Milan’s away form has been relatively strong of late, as well, with five wins and a draw in their last eight games on the road. With Napoli and Lazio to face on their travels after this, it very much looks like a game they have to win in order to keep their European hopes alive.

SPAL vs Milan Betting Advice

The bottom two in Serie A are in danger of being cast adrift and defeat for SPAL here would surely make a return to the second tier inevitable. Milan have to continue winning games in their pursuit of playing in Europe next season and their recent form would suggest they can get three points here.

A Suso goal just after the hour mark gave Milan all three points when the teams met in the San Siro earlier in the season.

Key Facts – SPAL vs Milan Betting Tip

  • It’s now just one win in eight league games for SPAL who are seven points from safety
  • Defeat in the derby to Inter remains Milan’s only loss in their last five away games
  • SPAL have lost their last six at home, conceding 11 goals in the process

Draws are no use to SPAL at this stage so they will have to be more open than they would have liked in this game. Milan will relish that with their ability to counter at pace and an away win looks likely. The selection is both teams to score though.

Eight of SPAL’s last 13 at home have ended this way whilst seven of Milan’s last 12 have been the same.
