Next up is a bottom half encounter in the Brazilian top flight with 13th placed Sport Recife taking on fourth from bottom Chapecoense at their Estadio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, with the hosts desperately looking to avoid a fifth straight defeat.
The World Cup break has done Sport Recife no favours at all as Claudinei Oliveira’s side have slumped to four straight defeats in Serie A since, with losses to Ceara, Fluminense, Vitoria and Flamengo.
However, it should be noted that three of those four defeats were away from home, while form at home has been pretty steady with the loss to 9th placed Fluminense being their first of this season open home turf. A home record of 3-3-1 9/6 suggests they’ll still be hard to beat this evening, with goals likely to be at a premium.
Onto Chapecoense, and the visitors sit fourth from bottom and occupy one of the relegation places in Serie A ahead of their trip to Recife. Chape have achieved just one win from their last eight matches overall, which is one of the main reasons they find themselves in their current predicament.
Four of their last five have been stalemates though, so the visitors are no easy touch despite holding a below par away record of 0-3-5 5/16 to their names, and they’ll likely set their stall out to try and frustrate Sport Recife for as long as they can this evening.
Chapecoense have failed to score in five of their eight away matches though, and this lack of firepower can only take them so far, hence the spate of draws in recent times.
