Brazilian Serie A continues on Sunday and my next pick features Sport Recife taking on Fluminense at the Estádio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, with Recife looking to bounce back from three league matches without a win here this afternoon.
Two recent defeats to Vasco da Gama and Ceara have resulted in Sport Recife dropping down the league table to 9th place, and with just one win from their last five matches overall, the home side will be keen to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Home form has been solid enough for Sport who hold a record of 3-3-0 8/4 and still remain unbeaten at home this season, a run that includes wins against Bahia, Atletico Mineiro and Atletico PR. Goals have been fairly scarce so this could be a low scoring affair.
Onto Fluminense, and the visitors ended a run of four straight defeats in the Brazilian top flight last time out when they held Vasco da Gama to a 1-1 draw away from home to put an end to the rot that was in danger of setting in.
However, the fact remains that Fluminense have now gone six matches without a win, and this poor sequence of results include defeats to Parana, Flamengo, Atletico Mineiro and Santos, while their away record reads a disappointing 1-2-4 8/13.
The bigger picture shows that Fluminense have managed to gain just one win from their last 10 matches on their travels, and although Sport Recife have had their own problems in recent times, the hosts should have enough about them to get something from this match.
