Anderlecht can go above their opponents and move into second spot in the table with a win on Friday against a  Sporting Charleroi team who are better on their travels.

Sporting Charleroi Preview – Can Charleroi get the win which would keep them in touch with the leaders?

Following an excellent third place finish last season, Charleroi are looking to repeat that at the very least and will have some hopes they can do better in what appears to be a wide-open title race. They sit in that same position at the moment but just three points behind leaders and champions Club Brugge who have not been as dominant so far this campaign. Karim Belhocine – who will be facing his former club in this one – is doing a tremendous job and has done since taking over last summer.

His team coming into tomorrow’s game on the back of two good away wins which were required after winning just one of nine before that – a run which was in stark contrast to winning six straight at the start of the season.

Whilst no team has taken more points away from home, the issue for Charleroi has been at home. They’ve won only one of their last five, losing three, which will not be good enough to sustain their current position. It makes Friday’s game all that more important as a result with it being against a team who sit just below them in the table.
Scoring goals has been the biggest issue with just 10 at home (the lowest in the top half) but they do have the joint best defensive home record (6) along with the leaders.

Anderlecht Preview – Are Anderlecht capable of getting what would be just their second away win in six attempts?

There’s no denying it’s been a real struggle for Anderlecht the past few seasons. Since winning the title in 2016/17 they have finished 3rd, 6th and 8th. It’s not the record you expect from Belgium’s most successful club but there are some signs they are beginning to improve. Vincent Kompany is focusing solely on coaching duties these days which is making a considerable difference.

Just like their opponents, Anderlecht come into this game on the back of two straight wins – both at home. Victories over Genk and Oostende have put them into fifth spot and four points off top spot.

Just as Charleroi have had their struggles at home, Anderlecht know they need to improve their away form if they are to stay in the title race. It’s just two wins in their eight match on their travels but they will take some encouragement from the fact they have been beaten only twice, as well.

Kompany has used his connections at Manchester City to bring in young German striker Lukas Nmecha on loan. Nmecha has hit the ground running in Belgium with nine goals in his 14 matches.

Sporting Charleroi vs Anderlecht Betting Advice

Both Charleroi and Anderlecht know that if they are to threaten Club Brugge’s hold on the title then they have to become more consistent and also win games against the other top teams. A draw doesn’t really suit either team in this one which should make for an interesting encounter.

It’s Anderlecht who hold the upper hand in this fixture winning the last three away to Charleroi with the home team’s last victory coming over three years ago.

Key Facts – Sporting Charleroi vs Anderlecht Betting Tip

  • Having went unbeaten in 14 home matches, Charleroi have lost four of their last six at home
  • Anderlecht have scored at least one goal in eight of their last nine away games
  • The visitors are looking for their fourth straight win here in this fixture

Although Charleroi are not free-scoring at home they have goals in their team having hit 28 in 17. Seven of Anderlecht’s eight away games have seen both teams scoring and there have been a total of 30 goals in those matches. As such, both teams to score looks a solid bet in this one.
