Sporting Lisbon picked up their 19th league title last season, finishing five points clear of Porto at the top. It was a memorable season for the club from Lisbon, who had not won the Portuguese league since the 2001-02 campaign.
Sporting’s reward for winning the Primeira Liga was direct qualification to the group stage of the Champions League. From now until December, Lisbon will play Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas home and away.
