Hearts remain in second place but will be frustrated after the weekend’s draw and looking to get all three points when they make the journey to Perth to face a St Johnstone team languishing in the bottom six.

St Johnstone Preview – Can Saints get back to winning ways after a couple of losses?

Matches against Celtic and Rangers wont define St Johnstone’s season but a loss to the former on Saturday means it’s three defeats in four league games for Callum Davidson’s men. A 2-0 loss was about as much as Saints deserved from their performance at Celtic Park and the result now leaves them in 10th spot with just two teams below them. They do have six point advantage over bottom club Ross County but are only a couple better off than rivals Dundee who sit in the relegation playoff zone.

Davidson – who led the club to both domestic cups in his first season as manager – will only be thinking about how his team can start to climb the table and head towards the top six.

Their last home game was easily the most disappointing of this campaign and perhaps under Davidson as a whole. The Perth club went down 3-0 to Livingston who are now above them in the table after their own early season struggles.

Saints continue to struggle in front of goal with just six scored in 10 games. That’s the lowest of any team in the division and follows on from the previous term where they averaged less than a goal game.

Hearts Preview – Will Hearts bounce back from disappointing home draw last time out?

If you offered Robbie Neilson and the Hearts support the prospect of being unbeaten after 10 games and sitting in second place just three points off top spot when they won promotion to the top-flight last season there would not have been many of them who would have been anywhere close to disappointed. Overall it’s been a great return to the Premiership but Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Dundee will have been a frustration.

Hearts would have went top with a win prior to Rangers playing the day later but were undone in the final 10 minutes and had to settle for what is a third home draw in six games.

Away from home it’s been very encouraging with 8points from a possible 12. That includes a draw against Rangers which seen them preserve their unbeaten start. The challenge for Neilson and his players is ensuring that continues come the end of this weekend. After this game Hearts travel north to face Aberdeen.

It’s no surprise to see Hearts perform below their best without striker Liam Boyce on Saturday. As well as the top scorer he provides so much in terms of his link-up play and is again doubtful to take his place in the starting line-up tomorrow.

St Johnstone vs Hearts Betting Advice

This will be the first meeting between the teams since the beginning of 2020. It’s a fixture which St Johnstone have revelled in over the last decade, especially at home. Saints are unbeaten in their last 13 at home to Hearts, winning eight of them.

That should give the home team some confidence that they can get a positive result here before a Tayside derby against Dundee United at the weekend.

Key Facts – St Johnstone vs Hearts Betting Tip

  • St Johnstone sit third bottom having won only two matches in the Scottish Premiership all season
  • Hearts remain the only unbeaten team in the division but did drop two valuable points at home to Dundee
  • You have to go all the way back to 2010 for the last time Hearts defeated St Johnstone away from home in the league

The absence of Boyce could be crucial for the visiting team. They just don’t carry the same threat without him. Saints may not win many but they are still more than capable of getting points off the top teams in this league. Back them in the double chance market so we have both a home win and draw on our side.
