St Mirren Preview – Will Saints put their frustrations to one side as they attempt to upset champions?

Jim Goodwin couldn’t hide his frustration after St Mirren’s 3-0 home defeat to Hibernian on Saturday. The Saints were without their three first-choice goalkeepers due to breaches of their bubble and that will again be the case for this one. Dispensation was granted for them to bring in a goalkeeper but even the signing of Hearts’ Bobby Zlamal was unable to prevent them losing their first home game of the season.

It was hardly an ideal scenario with Zlamal arriving at the club only hours before kickoff but he will have at least had a few days training before this one.

Our betting prediction:
Albian Ajeti to score in 90 minutes

The game itself would also have infuriated Goodwin with two key moments going against his team. How those decisions (or non- decisions) would have impacted the result is anybody’s guess but it was also too easy for Hibs to get their goals. For a team who have generally been very good defensively, that will also be disappointing for their coach.

The squad will be glad they have a game to put it right so soon after that loss but know they’ll be under pressure from the off against a team going for their 10th league title in a row.

Celtic Preview – Was Saturday’s victory a sign of things to come for Celts as they look to close in on leaders?

Anybody looking at Celtic’s result from the weekend would think it was a very comfortable. It turned out that way in the second half but the 5-0 scoreline doesn’t do Ross County’s efforts justice. Celtic’s back three had to endure some very nervous moments and it was Vasilis Barkas in the Celtic goal who came to their rescue. It may have been expected that with a change in formation and Shane Duffy making his debut that there would be some teething problems.

Neil Lennon will be hoping that’s behind them going into this game and those matches ahead as the games begin to come thick and fast for the Hoops.

Whilst Duffy getting a goal on his debut grabbed the headlines, the fact three strikers got goals will be particularly pleasing for Lennon. The change in formation means he can play both Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti up top and they seem like they can complement each other.

With Rangers not play again until Sunday, Celtic can go top for at least 24 hours should they win this and at home to Livingston. It may still be early in the season but it would put some pressure on their rivals who have started strongly.

St Mirren vs Celtic Betting Advice

The two teams are coming off contrasting weekend result but those will count for little when this game begins. St Mirren may not have beaten Celtic in the league since 2010 but they tend to make life difficult when hosting the champions. The last five results have been 2-1, 2-0, 0-0, 2-0 and 2-1. So Celtic will know that they’re going to be tested in this one and will have to work hard for a fourth consecutive win in the league.

St Mirren would obviously be happy with any positive result considering their circumstances going into this, but they may use what they feel as injustices against them, in their favour.

Key Facts – St Mirren vs Celtic Betting Tip

  • St Mirren were without three goalkeepers for the weekend defeat to Hibs, a game where key decisions also went against them
  • Celtic’s win over Ross County was the first time they hit five goals away from home in over a year
  • Saints last took points off Celtic back in September 2018 in a goalless draw in Paisley

It may not be without some scares but Celtic have kept three clean sheets in a row in the league whilst St Mirren have failed to score in three of their last five. It makes an away win to nil very appealing in this game.
