Due to a number of postponements in the league, this is just the second game St Mirren are playing since their last match in this competition. It’s been a really frustrating time of it for Jim Goodwin, whose team drew at home to Dundee United on Friday – their first match in nearly a month. Goodwin will therefore be looking forward to these games not only in an attempt to qualify, but also for match sharpness ahead of upcoming league games.

It was all going pretty well for Morton and their manager David Hopkin with a come-from-behind win at home to Ayr in the Championship to go along with four points from their first two group matches in the League Cup. Right up until they travelled to take on Raith Rovers at the weekend – a match they lost 5-0. It’s a defeat which will sting all concerned and in many ways they couldn’t ask for a better game than a local derby.

Morton’s points in the section have come from a draw against Queen of the South (which they lost on penalties) before a narrow 1-0 victory against Queens Park. This will be the first away game in their section and they finish off with a trip to face Partick Thistle on Saturday.
