Having ended their goal drought at Hamilton on Tuesday, Aberdeen turn their attentions to derailing Celtic’s march towards yet another title at Pittodrie.

St Mirren Preview – Buddies still keeping their heads above water

The Buddies would have been kicking themselves after throwing away a three-goal advantage at Motherwell in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday but did finally go through after a penalty shoot-out.

Having played 120 minutes on a rain-soaked pitch, it’s not ideal that Jim Goodwin’s team are asked to take to the field again for a vital league game just three days later.

St Mirren haven’t won a Premiership game since the end of December but have drawn with Aberdeen, Hibernian and Hamilton Academical. Unfortunately, they need to start turning those draws into wins if they are to steer clear of the relegation places, though they do have a game in hand over several of the teams at the wrong end of the table.

The manager is set to name an unchanged squad for the visit of one of their relegation rivals to Paisley but is conscious that fatigue could be a factor. Ryan Flynn, Stephen McGinn, Kyle Magennis and Gary MacKenzie all remain absentees.

Jonathan Obika may be offered more support as the lone striker with conditions again likely to be testing at St Mirren Park but this is a game that the home side can’t afford to lose.

Hearts Preview – Jambos still in the mire

Hearts have failed to build on that shock defeat of Rangers at the end of last month.

The Jambos did win at Falkirk in the cup but victories in the Premiership are still generally proving elusive and Daniel Stendel’s team continue to prop up the Premiership.

The goals against tally is still mounting with the Edinburgh side having conceded 13 in four matches in the league since that shock Rangers win and they needed to late goals to grab a point against 10-man Hamilton last weekend.

Time is beginning to run out and the pressure is growing on the manager, even though he has only been in the job for a relatively short space of time. Some Hearts fans are unhappy that the German is persevering with his favoured high-pressing tactics, even though it leaves his team open to the counter-attack.

Northern Ireland striker Liam Boyce is a doubt having come down with the sickness bug that has already ruled out Toby Sibbick. Full-back Aaron Hickey and Peter Haring remain sidelined while Marcel Langer complete his two-match suspension.

Predictions and Tips

Melker Hallberg of Hibernian holds back Sam Foley of St Mirren – ActionPlus Alan Rennie

This is really a must-win game for both teams so expect their to be tension in the air.

While neither side is in particularly good form, they have been performing better than the league table suggests. There may not be as many goals in this encounter as in the respective sides’ recent matches therefore.

St Mirren to win by one goal is a general 7/2.
