Standard Liege Preview – Will Standard Liege remain in the hunt for qualification with a vital home win?

The objective is a simple one for Standard Liege in that they know they pretty much have to win this one to have any chance of qualifying. The Belgians come into this game with just three points from as many games. It leaves them three points off their opponents in second place and a seven behind leaders Arsenal, who have played a game more. Liege’s only win so far came in the home game against Vitoria Guimaraes back in September. They have since lost 4-0 to Arsenal and 2-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt so considering those games were always likely to be their hardest in the section, it’s not all that surprising they find themselves with work to do.

Should they get a home victory then it’s all to play for the in the final couple of games as they would be level on points with the Bundesliga outfit. With Guimaraes all but out and Arsenal likely to have qualified by the time they come to Liege, they couldn’t have asked for a better two fixtures to finish with…should they be victorious here.

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Can Eintracht follow up their excellent weekend win in domestic action with another important three points?

It was a wonderful weekend for all concerned with Eintracht Frankfurt as they thumped the German champions 5-1 at home – a game that ultimately cost their former coach Niko Kovac his job in Munich. The result leaves them just outside the top six but only five points off top spot in the Bundesliga. It’s also further indication of how well Adi Hutter has done since taking over from Kovac in the summer of 2018. Of course, he nearly led the club to the final of this very competition – narrowly losing on penalties to Chelsea in last season’s semi-final.

There’s a long way to go before they can think about that stage this time around but they are in control of their qualification hopes at the moment. The win over Standard Liege last time out coupled with three points away to Guimaraes has them in good heart coming into this one.

Key-Facts – Standard Liege vs Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Eintracht travel to Belgium in confident mood having thumped Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga at the weekend
  • A win for the visitors would qualify themselves and Arsenal whilst a draw would also see the Londoners through

Standard Liege v Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Advice

Although the situation is looking rather uncomfortable for Standard Liege at the moment a win tomorrow would see their situation change dramatically. It’s not going to be easy, however, as this is an opponent who are not only in good form but one who have shown their credentials at this level as recently as last season and it’s a competition they clearly wish to do well in.

What Standard have in their advantage is that they are very strong at home. They have yet to lose at home this season with eight wins and a draw across their domestic league and in Europe. Frankfurt will be the best team they have faced so far, however. The visitors have been involved in 10 games already this season where both teams have scored and that looks likely once again tomorrow.
