Standard Liege Preview – Can Standard revive what appear faints hopes of qualifying by getting their first win in the group?
As second seeds in this section, Standard would not be expecting to sit bottom of Group D at the halfway stage. And even less likely still to be looking for their first points of the campaign. It’s been a real struggle for Philippe Montanier who took over in the summer and their hopes of qualification are looking very slim with the top two in the group already in seven points.
A home defeat against Rangers in the opening game set the tone for the campaign thus far, with heavy defeats away to Benfica and Lech to follow. Anything other than a win here would see them eliminated with two games left to play.
Lech Poznan Preview – Are Poznan set to follow up their home win and put pressure on the other two teams in this section?
The win over Standard Liege at home back in the beginning of this month has kept Lech Poznan’s qualification hopes alive. It may have been their first points of the section but they have impressed against both Rangers and Benfica in games previous to that success. With both those clubs playing each other as well tomorrow, they know they can narrow the gap to a maximum of two points, and possibly only if there is a victor in Glasgow.
Lech have a trip to Portugal to come before finishing their group stage campaign at home to Rangers so there remains plenty to play for – providing they can get a win in this match.

It’s been a less than impressive league season to date, however, with just two wins in nine games. That has left them sitting in 10th spot and already adrift of the leading pack. Having taken just two points from a possible 12 of late Dariusz Zuraw knows that he has to try and get his team back to winning ways sooner rather than later.
Mikael Ishak is in his first season at the club and the Swedish striker has been excellent with nine goals in all competitions including two doubles against Benfica and Standard.
Standard Liege vs Lech Poznan Betting Advice
Although Standard are enjoying a decent domestic season, their performances and results in Europe have been very disappointing. Their opponents, on the other hand, may just have one win from three group games but they have performed well despite struggling in the Ekstraklasa.
Some optimism for Standard is that the defeat to Rangers is their only loss at home this year and their first in 15 European games in Liege.
Key Facts – Standard Liege vs Lech Poznan Betting Tip
- Three losses, eight goals conceded and just one scored paint a pretty depressing picture for Standard so far
- Lech have been competitive in all their games so far and will fancy their chances of winning this one
- It was the Poles celebrating after the first match following an impressive 3-1 victory
In spite of that home record I think this is a game which Lech are capable of getting three points from. They were the superior team three weeks ago and have been better in the games against the other teams in this section, too. Back the Poles to do the double of their opponents.
