Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the threats to the big three at the Australian Open to win the event outright. The young Greek star has started the tournament well, but will go into a tough challenge in the third round. He will have to deal with the massive serving power of Canada’s Milos Raonic.

Tsitsipas can survive the third round challenge of Raonic

Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is ranked sixth in the world currently, took part in the ATP Cup, playing three matches there prior to the start of the Australian Open 2020. The 21 year old is a player still on the rise in the game after picking up the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals title at the end of last season. That was after winning the 2018 NextGen ATP Finals.

He opened his Australian Open 2020 campaign with a straight sets win over Italy’s Salvatore Caruso, dropping only five games throughout the contest. Things got even easier for Tsitsipas as he had a walkover in the second round when his schedule opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber withdraw. That extra rest is the type of thing that can count for a lot in the big picture of a Grand Slam.

It was at last year’s Australian Open that Tsitsipas really arrived on the big scene. During 2018 he won just five Grand Slam matches in total. Then at the 2019 Australian Open he ran to the semi finals, the biggest win of that run coming against Roger Federer in the third round.

He was stopped in the final four by Rafael Nadal. All five of Tsitsipas’s wins at last year’s Australian Open was in matches that went to four sets. That semi final at Melbourne Park 12 months ago is head and shoulders his best Slam performance.

Big-serving Raonic looking to establish himself

Canada’s heavy hitter Milos Roanic had a troubled 2019 because of injury. His season was pretty much a bust and had to miss the French Open and the US Open last year. He did however kick off the year well with a quarter final place at the Australian Open. Raonic has been to at least the quarters in four of his last five attempts at the tournament.

He missed around three months of action between March and June last year and then tentatively worked his way back into action. After his round of sixteen loss at Wimbledon, Raonic went W4 L5 in nine matches. There has been a confident start from Roanic, who is ranked 32nd, at the Australian Open 2020, winning his first two matches without having dropped a set. The intensity goes up a few levels here though.

Raonic beat Lorenzo Giustino and then Cristian Garin in his first two matches at Melbourne Park in this campaign. Not the stiffest of opposition, to be fair. There is a nice set up in this one because Tsitsipas and Raonic have never met before. The service game of the Canadian is still such a huge asset that he has under his belt and it could help him nick a set.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Milos Raonic Betting Advice

Tsitpsias looked fluent at the ATP Cup and will be well served for having not played in the second round of the Australian Open as well. He should have too much in the tank for Milos Raonic who is working his way back up the competitive ladder.

Key Facts – Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Milos Raonic Betting Tip

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas reached last year’s Australian Open semi’s
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas has never faced Raonic before
  • Milos Raonic struggled with injury for most of 2019

Just because of the massive serve of the Canadian, it is worth considering four sets turning up in this one. That was the trend last year at the tournament for Tsitsipas. We don’t see an upset coming so it should be the Greek player all the way in the match winner market.
