Stenhousemuir Preview – Can Stenny spring a surprise and get one over on the Saints?
League Two Stenhousemuir probably had low expectations coming into this League Cup campaign due to the fact they are the lowest ranked team in their section but they have been competitive in their first two games and despite it being somewhat improbable, they still hold a chance of qualifying for the knockout phase.
Stenny beat Dumbarton (who are a league above them) 2-1 away from home in their first match before losing by the same score line at home to Partick Thistle on Saturday. Stenhousemuir took the lead in that game but were unable to hold on for any points.
St Mirren Preview – Will last year’s semi-finalists show their quality to make it three straight wins in their group?
Jim Goodwin took St Mirren all the way to the semi-final of this competition last season, narrowly losing to Livingston. Saints also got the same stage of the Scottish Cup but were unable to get past eventual winners St Johnstone. Those near-misses will fuel the desire of Goodwin and his players to go one better and reach a final.
St Mirren are definitely going the right way about it with maximum points from two games. They benefited from a Covid outbreak in the Dumbarton camp to get a 3-0 win before following that up with a 1-0 success at home to Dunfermilne a week ago. The Buddies sit level on points with that rival but having the advantage of playing a game less than the Pars.

Whilst there is a long way to go before the transfer window shuts St Mirren have managed to keep hold of their key players from last season whilst adding some seasoned Premiership players in an attempt to push for a top six finish as well as continuing with their good cup runs.
Curtis Main is one of those players and he got his first goal for the club in the win over Dunfermilne. Greg Kiltie, Alan Power and Charles Dunne have also made the move to Paisley and will complement the talent already there but bring with them real experience of playing at the top level in Scotland.
Stenhousemuir vs St Mirren Betting Advice
There’s three divisions between these teams and I expect that to show when the two meet on Tuesday. St Mirren will just be getting into their stride after their first competitive match of the campaign and know they will be tested going by their opponent’s performances in the group to date.
Somewhat surprisingly, it will be the first time the two have played each other in 15 years.
Key Facts – Stenhousemuir vs St Mirren Betting Tip
- Stenhousemuir defeated League One Dumbarton before losing narrowly to Partick Thistle last time out
- St Mirren have maximum points from two games and looking to emulate their semi-final appearance from last season
- This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2006 in the same competition
I expect St Mirren to have too much quality and advise taking them to be winning at half time and full time.
