This is action from the third quarter of the 2021 PDC World Championship and the winner will move ahead to face 7th seed, James Wade.

Stephen Bunting is the seeded player in this matchup as he steps up to the oche for the first time in this year’s Championship.

Andy Boulton made light work of his first-round match and will be looking to carry forward a nice bit of momentum.

Stephen Bunting Preview – Will “The Bullet” survive his first test?

It has been a really quiet year for Stephen Bunting who is the 26th seed for this year’s World Championship.

He has managed to qualify for just three of the major events this year. The best effort out of that was a sixth-round place at the UK Open.

He fell just short of the quarter-finals there in defeat against Rob Cross.

Bunting made the quarter finals of the PDC World Championship 2015, his debut in the tournament after moving from the BDO.

But since then he has been past the second round once only.

That was last year when he reached the fourth round.

He is the favourite for Wednesday’s match against Andy Boulton at 8/11 odds* (odds taken 18:52 GMT Tuesday, 22nd December).

The last big action that he had was at the Players Championship Finals at the end of November and he lost his first match there.

Our betting prediction:

So we do think that this is going to be fairly close and a Bunting 3-2 correct score option is at 7/2* (odds taken 18:52 GMT Tuesday, 22nd December).

Given that he has had struggles in the World Championship, losing 5 of his last eight matches at the event this is not a given.

Will his greater experience get him across the line against Scottish challenger Andy Boulton?

We think so and Bunting was the 2014 BDO World Champion.

Andy Boulton Preview – Can Boutlon pull off the upset?

This is just the third time that Scotland’s Andy Boulton has been in the main draw of the PDC World Championships.

Following his move from the BDO, he took pace for the first time in 2016 and lost in the first round.

After three straight years of not qualifying, he was back in action at the World Championships last year.

He lost in the first round there as well.

It means that across the BDO and the PDC combined he has lost in the first round in four of the five occasions that he has entered.

But he bucked the trend this year as he collected 3-1 win over Deta Hedman in the opening round of this year’s tournament.

That was just a very comfortable ride from him however as his opponent didn’t even get up to an 80 three-dart average.

So this is a big chance for the 47-year-old to take a sizable step forward on the biggest level of all. But can he take it?

Andy Boulton’s last appearance in a major tournament happened back at the Players Championship Finals in November.

He did win his opening round match there before taking a tumble straight after.

Boulton is not the sort of player that you would really expect to find at the business end of tournaments at all.

He is at 11/10 to pick up the match victory here* (odds taken 18:52 GMT Tuesday, 22nd December).

Stephen Bunting vs Andy Boulton Betting Advice

We do expect Stephen Bunting to come through this test. He is at 8/11 to get that done in the match outright for darts betting* (odds taken 18:52 GMT Tuesday, 22nd December).

He has that extra experience and isn’t facing a player who has ever produced any kind of form on the big stage.

So because of that, we can lean towards a Bunting 3-1 correct score option at 10/3*(odds taken 18:52 GMT Tuesday, 22nd December).

Key Facts – Stephen Bunting vs Andy Boulton Betting Tip

  • Stephen Bunting is ranked 26th in the 2021 World Championship
  • Stephen Bunting won the 2014 BDO World Championships
  • Andy Boulton has lost 4 of his last 5 World Championship matches

Boulton has not exactly made the most of his chances in either the BDO or the PDC in the World Championships.

That win against Hedman in the first round this week was just an easy one and a player who he had hammered recently in the Home Tour.

He will get a much bigger test here, which we don’t expect him to pass.
