Tranmere to prove a point at Stevenage

League One/Two Tips

STEVENAGE v TRANMERE ROVERS

Saturday 4th August 2018 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Football – England – League Two Betting Tips

Stevenage will entertain newly promoted Tranmere Rovers as my betting tips delve into the fourth tier with Tranmere Rovers making a return to the Football League this Saturday afternoon.

Firstly, let’s take a look at Stevenage and they ended last season’s campaign in League Two in a disappointing 16th place despite possessing a reasonable home record which ended up on  9-9-5  42/27, but results overall were fairly ordinary towards the end of the season.

Stevenage managed just one win from their last five matches overall, which was a 3-1 home win over Exeter City, but defeats to Cambridge United, Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers meant their season ended with a whimper rather than a bang.

This vein of form also transferred into results at the Lamex Stadium too where they won just twice in their last five on home turf. Striker Danny Newton (14 goals) was Stevenage’s top goalscorer last term.

Onto new-boys Tranmere Rovers, and they ended last season in the National League in triumphant fashion as they edged Boreham Wood 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to win the play-off final and secure promotion back to the Football League.

The hard work now begins for Micky Mellon’s boys as they look to consolidate their position in League Two, but they’ll have to without last season’s top marksman in the National League, Andfy Cook, who has since moved to League One side, Walsall.

Nevertheless, the likes of Norwood (20 goals last term) and Jennings up front should pose Stevenage’s defence a few problems, and it’s worth noting that Tranmere have won eight of their last nine away matches overall in all competitions.

My betting tips suggest that Tranmere could be worth at least a point here.

Pick: Tranmere Rovers AH+0.5 @ 1.55 bet365 (odds taken at 07:54 GMT, 04 Aug 2018)
