Stevenage Preview – Can Stevenage pull out of slump?
Tuesday night’s hosts, Stevenage, find themselves bottom of League Two and 6 points adrift of safety prior to this evening’s crucial clash at home to Oldham Athletic, having now endured a slump of 10 matches without a win in the fourth tier.
Within this poor sequence of results, Graham Westley’s side have drawn 6 and lost 4 so the straight win for the home side looks to be a slim chance, but it’s definitely worth keeping the draw onside as far as possible as Stevenage have drawn the joint highest number of matches so far this season (tied with Macclesfield Town on 12 stalemates).
Stevenage have captured just 2 wins throughout this season which were both achieved at their Lamex Stadium with victories against Grimsby Town and Morecambe, but the hosts have since slumped to 5 matches without a win subsequently.
The home side possess an ordinary looking home record of 2-5-6 9/16 and to make matters worse, the Borough have failed to score in 4 of their last 5 matches too, while the bigger picture shows they’ve failed to hit the back of the net in 7 of their 13 matches at home as well.
Oldham AthleticPreview – Can Oldham at least avoid defeat?
Following 3 defeats on the trot in League Two it was imperative that Oldham Athletic got something out of their relegation ‘six-pointer’ away at Macclesfield Town on Saturday and that’s exactly what The Latics did by holding their hosts to a 1-1 draw for a crucial point on the road.
Dino Maamria’s side will now be looking to repeat that result and perhaps even sneak all three points when they make their way down to Hertfordshire to face bottom of the pile, Stevenage, on Tuesday night as the visitors look to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom two.
Although Oldham’s recent results away from home have produced a mixed return, they’ve picked up wins at Newport County and Morecambe in 1-0 and 2-1 wins as well as the point at Macclesfield Town, while their two defeats during this period were suffered at teams flying high in the division, namely league leaders Swindon Town and 3rd placed Cheltenham Town.
2 defeats out of their last 6 matches on the road isn’t the end of the world as they’ve also picked up a point away at Port Vale too, so The Latics will be fairly confident that they can walk away with at least a point here.
