Two beleaguered teams, but with very different reasons, come into this clash with Stoke City sitting second from bottom in the top flight taking on an Everton outfit who seem to be drifting as the season nears its end, and whose fans are getting restless.
Stoke were powerless to prevent Premier League leaders, Manchester City, from winning at the bet365 Stadium, as The Potters went down to a 2-0 defeat, but the home side will have probably their best chance to turn things around on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Everton.
Stoke possess the best record at home of the three teams in the relegation zone to date with stats of 5-4-6 16/23, and they’ve lost just three matches from their last eight league games on home turf, while recording wins over Swansea City, West Brom and Huddersfield Town. They also nicked points against Watford and Brighton in 1-1 draws.
The murmers of discontent are starting to get louder at Goodison Park with reports of supporter unrest surrounding manager, Sam Allardyce, and his perceived negative style of play, particularly at home, despite The Toffees having won their last three home matches on the trot!
Everton have been poor away from home all season though, and if five defeats on the trot away from home (Bournemouth, Tottenham, Arsenal, Watford and Burnley) weren’t enough, they’ve also been dealt a massive blow with influential play-maker, Gylfi Sigurdsson (4 goals, 3 assists) ruled out for a few weeks with a knee injury.
The loss of Sigurdsson could seriously hamper Everton’s ability to create goal scoring chances, while Stoke will be looking to Shaqiri (7 goals, 6 assists) for inspiration going forward.
