Sunderland and Fleetwood Town meet at the Stadium of Light in EFL League One action this Tuesday evening. The Black Cats are in patchy from, but three points from this one will be massive in their quest for promotion. Incredibly, Sunderland have picked up just one home league win since the turn of the year. As for the Cod Army, they are in freefall having failed to win any of their previous nine League One games. Sunderland Preview – Can Neil’s Black Cats secure a crucial three points?

Sunderland have been in poor form since the start of the year. They ended 2021 with a thumping 5-0 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday, but the Black Cats have picked up just two league wins from 12 in 2022.

After a woeful run of four defeats and a draw from five, Sunderland have stopped the rot in recent weeks, though. Alex Neil’s side are unbeaten in three, seeing off Wigan Athletic 3-0 away from home and drawing with Burton Albion and Charlton Athletic.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No

Sunderland have dropped out of the top six after the recent results, but three points on Tuesday will get them back on track. The bookies have the home victory priced at 8/13.

Fleetwood Town Preview – Can the Cod Army end winless run?

Stephen Crainey has had a tough start to his managerial career at Highbury Stadium since taking over from Simon Grayson on a permanent basis in late December. Since shocking Rotherham United in mid-January, which was a fourth win in six, the Cod Army have gone on to draw five and lose four of nine League One games.

Fleetwood have been dragged back down towards the bottom three. Town are in 19th spot with 33 points to their name, only three points above 21st-place Morecambe. Overall, Fleetwood have won seven, drawn 12 and lost 15.

Fleetwood will go ten League One games without victory if they do not take all three points at the Stadium of Light in midweek. They head to Sunderland as the second favourites, with the bookies offering 5/1 for an away win.

Sunderland vs Fleetwood Town Betting Advice

The two teams played out an entertaining four-goal draw when they met at Highbury earlier in the season. The Black Cats were two up and cruising, but late goals from Callum Morton and Gerard Garner earned Fleetwood a share of the spoils.

They have only met eight times before, with five of those ending in draws. The Mackems’ 2-0 success at the Stadium of Light back in February last year is their only victory over Fleetwood.

Key Facts – Sunderland vs Fleetwood Town Betting Tip

  • Sunderland have taken four points from their past five home matches
  • Fleetwood have gone nine games without a league win
  • The Black Cats have only beaten the Cod Army once before

Back in February 2021, Aiden O’Brien and Max Power netted in a 2-0 Sunderland win over Fleetwood. The Wearsiders will be desperate for all three points on Tuesday to get their promotion bid back on track, and we like the home win -1 at 7/5. There is also good value in 11/8 for the hosts to be winning at half time and full time.
