Sutton United recorded a useful 2-0 win away at National League strugglers, Solihull Moors, last weekend which extended their unbeaten run in the non-league top flight to eight matches, and they’ll be looking to keep the momentum going when they welcome Halifax Town to their Borough Sports Ground this Saturday afternoon.
Sutton now sit in fourth place and just three points adrift of current league leaders, Dover Athletic, following recent wins over Barrow, Fylde and Solihull Moors. This eight match unbeaten sequence contains five draws though, and these have prevented the Surrey outfit from becoming clear league leaders.
Sutton possess a reasonable home record of 4-3-2 13/12 on home turf, and they seem to have recovered from back-to-back defeats to Maidstone United and Maidenhead United respectively as they’ve since put together a five match unbeaten run. Sutton have won by 2 clear goals just once this season though.
Visitors Halifax Town sit in the bottom half of the National League in 16th place following an ordinary run of results which have seen them go seven league matches without a win, which includes defeats to Ebbsfleet United, Maidstone United and Tranmere Rovers.
However, Halifax have also been involved in a number of stalemates recently, four to be exact, included within these last seven matches, so the possibility of a draw here today isn’t entirely out of the question.
Halifax’s away record of 2-4-3 8/10 suggests that a draw today is the best they can hope for, but defeat seems the most likely outcome as they’ve lost three of their last four on the road with losses at Dagenham, Ebbsfleet and Tranmere.
But even though they seem to be staring defeat in the face, I do believe that Halifax can cover the handicap here.
