Following the opening match of the Championship on Friday night, this Saturday marks the first weekend of the new season in the second tier and our next preview features Swansea City playing host to Hull City as the betting tips continue at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City Prediction – Can Swansea build on Potter’s foundations?

Following relegation from the Premier League the season before, it was always going to be a tall order for the Welsh club to return to the top flight last term.

Last season’s manager, Graham Potter, displayed why he’s amongst one of the best younger managers on the circuit as he guided The Swans to a creditable 10th place finish.

Indeed, if Swansea had been able to pick up points on a more regular basis away from home last season they might have been in the mix for a play-off spot.

A solid home record at The Liberty Stadium ended on an impressive looking 12-6-5 42/28 which was helped by their striker Mc Burnie (22 goals).

The Swans head into this Saturday afternoon opener with Hull City on the back of a 5-match unbeaten run as well as an impressive winning streak in pre-season.

The hosts also ended their season on home turf with an 11-match unbeaten sequence which undoubtedly put Potter on the radar for the bigger clubs.

Premier League outfit, Brighton, have snapped up Potter to replace former coach Chris Hughton, but Swansea have still maintained their momentum.

A pre-season consisting of away wins at Mansfield Town, Crawley Town, Yeovil Town, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers will have been a big boost.

As too a recent 2-1 win over Serie A side, Atalanta, with new manager Steve Cooper eager to continue the good recent work here.

Hull City Prediction – Can Hull City avoid trap-door?

Hull City defied the odds by avoiding relegation in last season’s Championship campaign by staging a remarkable comeback under former manager, Nigel Adkins.

With just 2 league wins after their first 14 matches of the new season, Hull City were left floundering in the relegation zone in the second tier.

However, Adkins turned things around at the KCOM Stadium as The Tigers embarked upon an impressive 10-match unbeaten sequence from the end of November to mid-January.

This impressive turnaround in form saw Hull City pick up 7 wins which lifted them to within the fringes of the play-off pack.

Although they never broke into the top six and their form subsequently tailed off thereafter, it was nevertheless a successful campaign where they avoided relegation with ease.

This season though presents new and serious problems – Adkins has left the club along with forward Campbell, and the hosts look set to see further key players leave.

The likes of Grosicky and Bowen who were instrumental in Hull’s impressive surge up the Championship table are now firmly on the radar of other clubs.

If the pair leave then Hull City and their new manager, Grant McCann, will have a very tough job in keeping the Humberside club up.

Betting Tips Verdict

Swansea City with home advantage appear to have the edge here while Hull will be grateful for a point I daresay.
