After a disappointing defeat in midweek, Steve Cooper’s Swansea City will be looking to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking. This Saturday, Valerien Ismael’s in-form Barnsley make the trip to the Liberty Stadium in an EFL Championship Christmas cracker in South Wales. Will the Swans make home advantage count, or can the Tykes cause an upset?

Swansea City Preview – Swans to make home advantage count?

A week ago, Swansea City secured a stunning win against rivals Cardiff City in the South Wales derby. The Swans were worthy winners at the Cardiff City Stadium, with Jamal Lowe putting his goalscoring woes to bed with by bagging an impressive brace.

However, the Swans were brought back down to earth with a bang at Pride Park in midweek. The unpredictability of the Championship was on full show once again, as lowly Derby County picked up a deserved 2-0 home win, with both goals coming in the first period. That was Swansea’s third away defeat in five.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
5/6

Cooper’s men have had a few iffy results on the road of late, but the Welsh side have been a tough team to beat at the Liberty. Since suffering their one and only home loss back in October, Swansea have won four and drawn two of their next six on home soil. Will they return to winning ways at home on Saturday?

Barnsley Preview – Tykes to fall to narrow defeat in Wales?

Since taking over at Oakwell in October, Valerien Ismael had made an instant impact in South Yorkshire. The Tykes have not looked back since thumping Queens Park Rangers 3-0 in Ismael’s first game in charge on October 24th.

Under the Frenchman, Barnsley have won a staggering eight of 12, including each of the last three. Tuesday’s home win over Preston North End has put the Tykes in touching distance of the play-offs. The Yorkshire side have gone from relegation candidates to 12th in no time, now just four points adrift of sixth-placed Brentford.

It has not all been rosy for Ismael, though, who has also suffered defeats to Cardiff, Brentford, Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth. Saturday’s game in South Wales will be another tough test for the ever-improving Reds.

Swansea City vs Barnsley Betting Advice

As we touched on, Swansea have a fine home record this season. In fact, only Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Watford – who have all played one home game more – have taken more home points thus far. As for Barnsley, four of their nine away matches have ended in defeat.

Key Facts – Swansea City vs Barnsley Betting Tip

  • Barnsley’s last win over Swansea came in the 2006 EFL League One play-off final
  • Both Championship meetings ended in draws last season
  • New Tykes boss Ismael has won eight and lost four of his opening 14 matches in charge

Both Championship meetings ended in draws last term, but we fancy Swansea to get the better of Barnsley in this one. Having said that, we are also backing the Tykes to get on the scoresheet at the Liberty. Check out the solid odds of 15/4 for City to win and both teams to score.

Veteran Andre Ayew seems to be getting better and better with age. The Ghana international has played an integral part in Swansea’s excellent start to their season. Back Ayew to score anytime in this one at 6/4.
