Switzerland Prediction – Can Switzerland put pressure on Denmark?

3rd placed Switzerland have a golden opportunity to grab an easy three points when they entertain minnows Gibraltar at St. Jakob-Park in Basel who are not only yet to gain a single point but score a goal as the visitors once again assume their role as ‘whipping-boys’ in Group D.

Switzerland are 3 points behind 2nd placed Denmark but have a game in hand over their rivals and what better opposition to keep their Euro 2020 on track than Gibraltar who have lost their last 7 matches on the trot in all competitions.

The hosts started their Group D campaign off in positive fashion as they collected 3 points with a 2-0 win away at Georgia, and although they haven’t won their next two matches, they’ve picked up useful points against the stronger teams in the group with draws against Denmark 3-3 at home and a 1-1 draw away at Republic of Ireland.

Overall, Switzerland have lost just 1 of their last 11 Euro qualifiers, while at home, the Swiss have won 4 of their last 5 matches with wins over Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia and San Marino and scoring a total 20 goals in the process!

Gibraltar Prediction – Can Gibraltar avoid a hiding?

This looks a tough assignment for Gibraltar who travel to Switzerland on the back of four defeats already in what has been another disappointing campaign for the visitors who are simply just making up the numbers in Group D.

Not only are Gibraltar pointless, but are also goal-less as the visitors have failed to score in each of their first 4 matches of their campaign, and they’ve also shipped 12 goals during this poor sequence of results too.

This could obviously spell further trouble for Gibraltar as they face a free-scoring Swiss outfit in Basel, as well as having lost their last 7 matches on the trot in all competitions. In addition, Gibraltar have lost all 14 of their Euro qualifiers so far in their international history at this level and one has to question their ability to compete on this stage.

Within this woeful set of results, Gibraltar have lost their last 7 away matches on the trot, conceding a total of 34 goals and scoring just 2 in reply.

Key-Facts – Switzerland v Gibraltar

  • Switzerland have lost just 1 of their last 11 Euro qualifiers
  • Switzerland have scored a total of 20 goals in their last 5 Euro qualifiers at home
  • Gibraltar have lost all 14 of their Euro qualifiers so far in their international history

Betting Tips Verdict

It’s not a matter of whether Switzerland will win this one, but by how many goals, and I’m backing the hosts get off to a flyer against their hapless opponents.
