This is familiar territory for Sydney FC as they prepare for what will be a fifth straight semi-final. They have been dominant over the last few years and that experience is an obvious advantage as they look ahead to Saturday’s game. The club know how to win when the get here as well having gone on to win the final itself in three of the last four years and they will be hoping to extend that record by winning what would be their sixth title overall.
Steve Corica has been responsible for two of those (2018/29 and 2019/20) and will be looking to make history by becoming the first team to win three straight titles.
Sydney could barely be in better form either having won their last five matches during the regular season. That was enough to guarantee a home semi-final after finishing second behind Melbourne City. They will now be hoping to take that form into this knockout match. The champions have also had the benefit of a two week break since their last game, a 2-0 win in Brisbane.
Perhaps most important for Sydney and most worrying for any opponents is they have kept four clean sheets in that run of five wins which is ominous for the rest.
Adelaide United Preview – Will Adelaide provide an upset as they look to reach final for the first time since 2016?
Adelaide last made it to this stage back in 2019 when they lost on penalties to eventual runners up Perth Glory. The last time they made it to the final itself was 2016 – the year they won their first and only title. They may not have been amongst the favourites to go all the way again but confidence will be increasing within the camp and they now find themselves just one game away from the final itself.
Adelaide seen off Brisbane 2-1 in the elimination final last week with the well travelled Tom Juric scoring a first half double to secure their passage.

Adelaide finished fifth in the league this season with an eight point deficit between themselves and their next opponents. Regular season positions are not all that important in these playoff matches, it’s the experience and playing on the road which United will have to overcome if they are to progress.
Their form away from home was very poor heading into the last couple of weeks of the season but a win against Melbourne Victory and then that huge success in Brisbane has at least restored some confidence having went five without a win on their travels.
