Torino – Serie A strugglers seeking end to home misery?

Il Toro will inherit a legion of new supporters this weekend, and for this weekend only, as fans from AC Milan and even locals Juventus rally behind the struggling Serie A outfit ahead of their clash with league leaders Inter. However, Davide Nicola’s ailing side have more pressing concerns than that of the Scudetto race, with his Torino team, currently 18th, facing up to the very real prospect of dropping down a division.

Aside from a 1-0 win away to fellow strugglers Cagliari, Torino (W3 D11 L10) haven’t had a great deal worth celebrating of late. That their only win in their last seven Serie A outings (D5 L1), having won only two league games since early November (D10 L6). That is some alarming form, not aided, of course, but a recent Covid-19 outbreak which forced their recent fixture with Lazio to be rescheduled.

With a couple of games in hand on the teams around them, there is hope they can catch Cagliari, who are two points better off in 17th. For that to materalise, Torino simply have to improve at home – they’re the only side yet to register a win at home in Serie A. Meanwhile, last week’s 4-2 loss away to rock-bottom Crotone, who had lost seven on the bounce prior, was arguably their own rock-bottom moment.

Inter Milan – Demanding Conte can guard against complacency?

Antonio Conte can be a hard man to please, renowned for his uncompromising demands and lack of humility when fronting up defeats. Fortunately for him and the Inter MIlan hierarchy, the latter is something this team has largely avoided thus far, losing only twice in Serie A in 2020/21 to top the table by six points ahead of AC Milan. It would take an extraordinary collapse, therefore, for them to concede so much ground.

Inter (W19 D5 L2) still need to play three of the top-five, though. Trips to Naples and Turin, to tackle Napoli and Juventus, are fraught with possibilities. AS Roma at the Olimpico won’t be a walk in the park either. Nevertheless, the consistency of this team is frightening – going nine unbeaten since a shock loss at Sampdoria on 6 January, beating all of Atalanta (on Monday), AC Milan, Juventus and Lazio in this period.

Victory in Turin against Juventus’ regional rivals, a Torino side wallowing in the relegation zone, would see them record an eighth straight Serie A win for the second time this term, while also making it four on the spin on the road. The Nerazzurri generated 2+ xG in all three said matches. Meanwhile, only AC Milan (34) have registered more points on their travels this season than the Nerazzurri (28 – W8 D4 L1).

Torino Vs Inter Milan Betting Advice

The Nerazzurri did the double over their upcoming opponents in 2019/20, prevailing 3-1 at the San Siro while also ending a three-match winless run at the Olimpico Grande Torino with a 3-0 victory. Antonio Conte’s men were 2-0 down, however, when the sides met in Milan in November, before four goals inside the final 25 minutes turned the game completely on its head for the hosts.

Torino Vs Inter Milan – Key Facts:

  • Inter Milan won the previous three Serie A meetings between the sides, scoring three or more while also winning by a 2+ margin on each occasion.
  • Torino were beaten 4-2 away from home in their latest Serie A encounter, succumbing to the side bottom of the table. They have one win in their past seven league games (W1 D5 L1).
  • Inter Milan are enjoying a seven-match winning streak in Serie A, scoring 18 for the loss of just two goals. The latest a hard-fought 1-0 scoreline at home to Atalanta.

Torino have given many of the top teams a scare this season, netting a total of 13 times in their eight encounters versus the current top-seven. Meanwhile their only blank came in a 2-0 loss to away to AC Milan. Their record as hosts is wretched (D7 L4), however, they did push Atalanta (2-4) and Lazio (3-4) close here earlier in the campaign. While they also carry a formidable threat through 11-goal top scorer Andre Bellotti.
