Josef Martinez, the club’s talisman and all-time leading scorer, marked the occasion with his first goal for exactly three months following his long-awaited return from a knee procedure.
It continued a period of resurgence for a side now unbeaten in four of its past five MLS contests but picked up just a second win in nine (W2 D3 L4). Now, they embark on a brutal stretch which has them on the road for three consecutive outings, beginning with a visit to Toronto. Encouragingly though, they would secure a maiden win at BMO Field at the fifth attempt (D1 L3 previously) during an ill-tempered clash last October.
Key Stat: Atlanta United would win only one of six MLS away matches (W1 D1 L4) prior to this weekend’s visit to Toronto FC, and none of four since netting a 94th minute winner in a 1-0 scoreline away at DC United at the start of April.
