Toronto – Erratic Reds are competent at BMO Field?

The Reds had shown signs of turning their stuttering MLS season around, taking their points tally to seven in four games (W2 D1 L1) with last weekend’s 2-1 home win versus Atlanta United. They were previously without a win in six (D1 L5). However, any momentum built up stalled in midweek in Toronto as they fell victim to a Columbus Crew which had amassed one win from eight away games beforehand.

Wednesday’s result marked the end of Toronto FC’s two-game winning run at BMO Field, after slender victories against struggling Chicago Fire (3-2) and Atlanta Utd, bringing their record at home this term to a still positive W5 L4. While it was a sixth 2-1 scoreline of the season at this venue (W4 L2 in favour of the hosts when this scoreline was produced) – where all but one of nine league games went over on 2.5 goals.

Key Stat: Defeat to Columbus Crew here on Wednesday, succumbing 2-1, means Toronto FC are still without a clean sheet in an MLS home game in 2022 (nine games).

 

 

Seattle Sounders – Response needed after unbeaten streak snapped?

Among the more shocking results during the midweek round occurred in Seattle, the Sounders losing 2-1 at home to CF Montreal. The latter have put together an outstanding season thus far and now sit level on points atop the Eastern Conference. But defeating the CONCACAF champions on their own patch – a Seattle side that had been in red hot form, winning three of the last four – felt like a statement.

As for the Sounders, they were left to lick their wounds on a second MLS defeat across an eight-game spell (W5 D1). The bulk of those games were in Seattle, though, and Brian Schmetzer’s side suddenly embark upon a run of three away games in their next four. That therefore complicates any swift return to winning ways for the Rave Green who have laboured on the road this term, winning two of seven so far (D1 L4).

Key Stat: Seattle Sounders would not manage more than one goal in five of their seven MLS away matches in 2022, scoring one goal across the last three vs FC Dallas (2-0 loss), Houston Dynamo (0-1 win) and Colorado Rapids (1-0 loss).

Toronto FC Vs Seattle Sounders Betting Advice

Both are coming off 2-1 defeats in midweek. However, while Toronto had a valid reason to feel aggrieved at losing to Columbus Crew (they were much the better team, comfortably winning the xG battle 2.22 to 0.65, but were undone by a goal of the season contender and Darlington Nagbe’s clinical finish), Seattle Sounders fell flat in defeat to high-flying CF Montreal (xG from that game: SEA 0.61 – 1.48 MON).
