Tottenham Prediction – Can Tottenham close gap on top two?

A 4th place finish at the end of last season’s Premier League campaign saw Tottenham make their lowest league finish in 4 seasons.

London rivals, Chelsea, pipped them into 3rd spot by just a single point, but Tottenham still qualified for the Champions League as they finished in the top four.

Despite the top four finish though, Tottenham’s season ended in disappointing fashion with their campaign fizzling out.

Just 1 win from their final 5 matches or just 3 victories from their final 12 matches of the season allowed Chelsea to nip ahead of them.

Tottenham’s overall home record ended on a reasonable looking 12-2-5 34/16 but if they’re to be serious contenders for the title, they need the number of defeats to be halved.

The hosts failed to win either of their two final league matches at home as they suffered a 1-0 loss to West Ham and could only muster a point against Everton in a 2-2 draw.

However, this season marks the first for Tottenham at their new stadium, so this will bring fresh hope for a more successful campaign this time around.

There have been no new additions up front with both Kane and Son firmly established but the midfield has been bolstered by a few new arrivals.

Manager, Mauricio Pochettino has added the likes of N’Dombele from Lyon, Lo Celso from Real Betis and Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.

Aston Villa Prediction – Can Aston Villa give good account?

Following last season’s triumphant win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final, Aston Villa face a tough baptism of fire in their return to the Premier League this Saturday.

The visitors have certainly splashed the cash during the summer months as they gear up for what they hope will be a successful return to the big time.

Villa certainly enjoyed a successful pre-season as the west midlands club won all 5 of their warm-up matches prior to opening day.

Wins against Minnesota United, Shrewsbury Town, Walsall, Charlton Athletic and RB Leipzig at least mean the visitors head into this clash with momentum behind them.

However, it’s unclear as yet whether an easy pre-season will have benefitted Aston Villa or lulled them into a false sense of security – time will tell.

One thing is for sure though, they’ll need to put up a better fight than they did in their last campaign back in 2016 which ended in disaster.

They finished the season without a win from their last 13 matches overall, while also losing their last 7 away matches on the trot which sent them down.

Under manager, Dean Smith though, Aston Villa lost just 1 of their last 10 away matches in the Championship and they’ll be hoping they can continue that kind of form this term.

Key-Facts – Tottenham v Aston Villa

  • Tottenham finished in 4th place at the end of last season in the EPL
  • Tottenham won just 3 of their final 12 matches of last season
  • Aston Villa lost just 1 of their last 10 away matches in the Championship

Betting Tips Verdict

Tottenham have won 9 of the last 10 meetings against Aston Villa and today should be no different as Spurs look to show the visitors who’s boss here. Spurs should also cover the asian handicap line too.
