It was a week of comebacks for English clubs on the European front as Liverpool overhauled Barcelona’s 3-goal lead tin the 2nd leg to record a 4-3 win in the Champions League, and Tottenham also produced heroics in the Europa League by recording a 3-2 win away at Ajax in Amsterdam to progress to the Europa League final against fellow Premier League club, Chelsea.
Unless Arsenal can produce a win against Burnley by a 9-goal margin and Tottenham lose to nil against Everton today, Spurs are guaranteed a top four finish this season, but the hosts will be eager to sign off with a win here following 3 defeats from their last 4 matches.
Losses to Manchester City, West Ham and Bournemouth had threatened Tottenham’s place in next season’s Champions League, but both Arsenal and Manchester United were unable to take advantage.
Tottenham’s impressive 7-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end last time out on home turf when they lost 1-0 to West Ham, but with an overall record of 12-1-5 32/14 and on a high from their exploits in midweek, Spurs look set for the points here.
Everton Prediction
Everton have made a reasonably strong finish to their Premier League campaign as The Toffees have suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 7 matches overall in the top flight which was a surprise 2-0 loss away at Fulham.
Nevertheless, Marco Silva’s side have certainly turned around what was a floundering campaign beforehand with recent wins against Chelsea, West Ham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Burnley which has lifted the merseysiders up into 8th place, and also buys manager Silva some more time at Goodison Park too.
Everton’s results away from home though still remain patchy as the visitors have picked up just 3 away wins from their last 9 matches on the road with wins at Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City and West Ham – the former two clubs having been relegated since.
An away record of 5-4-9 22/23 underlines Everton’s inconsistencies on their travels this season, and having failed to score in 7 of their 18 away matches to date along with their poor record away from home at Tottenham, they’ll do well to walk away with a point here I fancy.
