Tottenham Preview

There have been plenty of reports suggesting that Manchester United’s preferred choice for their next permanent manager is Spurs’ Mauricio Pochettino but the Argentinian will only be focusing on ensuring his Tottenham team have the best possible season. The club are currently third and would go six points behind Liverpool if they can take all three points from their clash with United. There has been growing talk around a title challenge for Poch’s men but they know it’s an outside chance and they have little to no margin for error. It’s now seven wins in their last eight games across all competitions and six victories from their last seven in the league. Having defeated Chelsea in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final and eased into the next round of the FA Cup in the past week, there is the potential for this to be a very special season for Tottenham fans, not to mention their continued participation in the Champions League. Much has been made of the stadium delay and the lack of new signings over the past year, but this Tottenham team are impressive in everything they do and will hope to continue their good form by defeating United on Sunday. The surprise defeat at home to Wolves at the end of December last time out brought an end to their four match home winning run and they will be looking to get make amends for that.

Manchester United Preview

Eyebrows were raised when Solskjaer was given the United job on a temporary basis but he has certainly won over his critics with five straight wins over the past three weeks. The fixtures have fallen kindly for the Norwegian having played four teams in the bottom half of the league before dispatching Reading in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend. You can only beat who you’re playing, though, and United have done that impressively as Solskjaer has endeavoured to restore some attacking flair to this team which was badly lacking under Jose Mourinho and one of the major reasons why he was sacked. Having achieved what he did as a player, Solskjaer doesn’t need to do much to get goodwill from the club’s supporters but if he can somehow engineer a top four finish then there would certainly be a clamour for him to get the job on a full-time basis and to do that it’s games such as this one which are so important. All too often this United team have came up short against the other top clubs in the Premier League and they need to put a marker down in these big games to continue their improvement.

Tottenham v Manchester United Betting Advice

Spurs ran out 3-0 victors back at Old Trafford earlier in the season in a game that summed up United under Mourinho. It’s bound to be a very different team they face tomorrow with the visitors looking much more energised, together and motivated. They’re also playing with a sense of freedom with much more emphasis on the attacking side of the game and Solskjaer has confirmed that he will be setting his team up to do exactly that on Sunday. Pochettino was bombarded with questions about his future when Mourinho was relieved of his duties so you can be assured there will be plenty of attention on the dugouts.

United have won both their away games under Solskjaer with consummate ease against Cardiff and Newcastle but this will be a very different proposition. Spurs have lost three times at home this season, with the top two also successful in addition to that defeat to Wolves. They have dominated United in home games of late, though, winning their last three and not losing to this opponent at home since 2012. United have improved under the interim manager but that wouldn’t have been hard and with Solskjaer committed to attacking that could play into the hands of the hosts who have the quality to take advantage of that and secure a vital three points.
