Tottenham Preview – Can Spurs settle?
After what was a fairly turbulent season behind the scenes at Tottenham as the hosts limped rather than surged into their 7th place finish, Tottenham fans will be hoping that this new era under former Wolves boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, not only provides greater stability but also somehow enables the north London club to hold onto their jewel in the crown, namely Harry Kane.
Tottenham claimed the last Europa Conference League spot last term having won four of their final six games of the season which included victories over Southampton, Sheffield United, Wolves and Leicester City, all of whom were struggling for form towards the end of last season.
In what is increasingly looking like being Kane’s last game for Tottenham, the fans will be hoping that the England striker can at least fire Spurs to a win over Manchester City here but the visitors have won the last two meetings on the trot against the hosts.
Manchester City Preview – Can City repeat title win?
Despite losing three of their final seven games of last season in the Premier League it was largely immaterial as Pep Guardiola’s side claimed another top flight title, this time by a margin of 12 points over their crosstown city rivals, Manchester United.
City also recorded wins against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Everton during this period, the latter seeing The Citizens register an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of The Toffees, and they’ll be confident that they can produce a good start to this new campaign on Sunday too.
Manchester City have further boosted their creative options in midfield too with the summer signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and they once again look to be the team to beat this season.
