Tottenham Preview – Can Spurs get their top four bid back on track and bounce back from three straight defeats?
A 1-0 loss in a London derby against Chelsea in isolation is not a horrendous result, however the manner of the performance and because it was Spurs’ third straight loss in the league means there is much more scrutiny on Jose Mourinho than there would be normally. It’s a run of losses which has seen Tottenham drop to eighth in the Premier League and seven points off the top four – which is now their key priority.
Mourinho will point to the fact Harry Kane has been missing for the last two games and that his team do have a game in hand over their top four rivals, but there is no doubt Spurs have to find a lot of improvement.
West Brom Preview – Will West Brom have enough to collect what would be three valuable points in their bid for survival?
It’s well known that Sam Allardyce has never been relegated as a manager but that looks like a stat that might just have weeks left in it’s lifespan. The task looked an uphill one when he took over from Slaven Bilic but it’s now become monumental. With each round of games played the league takes shape and if you don’t win games then you’re going to be struggling to keep your head above water. And that’s the case for the Baggies.
Midweek defeat to Sheffield United (the only team currently below them) appears to be the fatal blow as it leaves West Brom 10 points from safety and the fourth bottom club, Burnley, have played a game less as well.

Allardyce’s only win in the league since taking over came in the derby against Wolves last month but it’s not been the catalyst the manager would have hoped for. West Brom have been leading in their last two games against relegation rivals only to take one point in total. It’s nothing like good enough and the residual effect of that on the players is also a concern.
One note of optimism for Allardyce and his players is the form of their opponents.
Tottenham vs West Brom Betting Advice
It’s fair to say that these are two teams most in need of victory in the Premier League just now. The pressure on Mourinho and his team’s style of play is only growing whilst West Brom are already into the desperation stakes despite it being the first week of February.
Whilst the visitors have been involved in high-scoring games of late this is a fixture which tends to produce close encounters. Six of the last seven between the two have had two or fewer goals in them – including a 1-0 win for Spurs at the Hawthorns back in November.
Key Facts – Tottenahm vs West Brom Betting Tip
- Spurs have dropped to eighth in the league and are now seven points adrift of the top four
- Having taken just one point from a possible 12, West Brom are 10 points from safety and look doomed
- Only one of the last seven meetings between these two have contained three or more goals
Kane may well be fit enough to play some part but this is a dysfunctional Spurs attack. With both teams low in confidence I’m happy to back a low-scoring match so go with under 2.5 goals.
