Turkey Preview – Can Turkey bounce back from first defeat of the campaign and take all three points as expected?

Turkey started their qualifying campaign with three straight wins and hopes would have been extremely high at that time they could qualify for next summer’s finals. The majority of that hope stemmed from the brilliant 2-0 win at home to France in early June. Any time you beat the reigning World Champions there is always likely to be an overreaction. And that seems to have been the case with Turkey. Having led the group on the back of that win, the Turks were brought back down to earth in their next game when losing 2-1 in Iceland. That’s always the risk after such a big win, being unable to follow it up so soon after in these double headers. It will have been a long wait for them but they will see this match and Tuesday’s game in Moldova as the perfect opportunity for six points.

The win over France illustrated just how much improvement there has been for Turkey since Senol Gunes took over. The former Besitkas boss took over in February and has had such a positive influence. His mandate is simple and that is to qualify the nation for next summer’s finals. Six points over the next few days is their aim as they are locked in a three-way battle for the top two spots.

Andorra Preview – Points are unlikely but can Andorrans be competitive and avoid a heavy defeat?

Andorra are another of European football’s minnows and they face a very difficult test of getting anything from Saturday night’s game. It’s no surprise to see them in bottom spot after four games, yet to register a point or even a goal. They have not been disgraced, however, with the heaviest of their four defeats coming last time out against France. A 4-0 defeat is not embarrassing by any sorts and is in keeping with their performances in the group so far. A 2-0 defeat at home Iceland started proceedings before a 3-0 loss to Albania. The closest they have come to getting a result was the 1-0 loss in Moldova back in June.

Having drawn four of their six games in the Nations League against teams of a similar standing, there will be hope in the Andorran squad they can still get off the mark in this group. The most likely fixture where that will come is at home to Moldova which comes at the beginning of October. Before that, they face two very difficult games with France away to come on Tuesday. It would be monumental if they could get anything from either of those opponents, but more realistically it will be about keeping the score down.

Key-Facts – Turkey v Andorra

  • Turkey were brought back down to earth with a 2-1 defeat in Iceland, just days after beating World Champions France
  • Andorra are bottom of this section and yet to get a point or even score a goal
  • Andorra have lost just one game by more than four goals in the last five years

Turkey v Andorra Betting Advice

These games are sometimes difficult to negotiate as there is so much pressure and expectation for the fancied team to perform. Turkey have shown how capable they are already in this section, particularly with that win over France. The win over Moldova back in March, however, may be the more indicative victory ahead of Andorra’s visit. A couple of first half goals set the tone for the evening and they were able to coast to a 4-0 success. Winning games where they are expected to prevail has not always been as straightforward for the Turks, this cannot be one of the times they fail to win.

With three teams locked on nine points in Group H there is no margin for error against these lower ranked teams. Turkey look much better under their new coach and they should have too much for their visitors. Andorra are rarely thumped and have lost by more than four just once in the last five years. Take the visitors with a four goal start to cover the handicap.
