Turkey Prediction – Can Turkey seal qualification?

Sitting top of Group H joint level on 19 points with France and holding a 4-point cushion over 3rd placed Iceland, Turkey’s qualification for next year’s European Championships rests firmly in their own hands as they prepare for the visit of Iceland in Thursday night’s crucial encounter.

So far, it’s been a very successful group campaign for Turkey who have won 6 of their 8 matches in Group H to date, losing just the once which was a 2-1 loss away at tonight’s opponents, Iceland, but results at home have been excellent.

Turkey possess a 100% winning record on home soil with an impressive record of 4-0-0 8/0 which includes wins against Moldova 4-0, France 2-0, Andorra 1-0 and a 1-0 win over Albania, which has placed them top of the group on goal difference.

The hosts are also unbeaten in their last 8 home matches in Euro qualifiers, winning 7 of these, and even a draw in Thursday’s clash against Iceland would be enough for Turkey to qualify for next year’s tournament, while Everton’s Tosun (5 goals) looks the most likely for the hosts.

Iceland Prediction – Can Iceland make last gasp claims?

Following 4 wins out of their first 5 matches in Group H, Iceland got their Euro 2020 campaign off in positive fashion by beating Andorra 2-0, Albania 1-0, Turkey 2-1 and Moldova 3-0 to hand Erik Hamren’s side a positive start and collecting 12 points in the process.

It therefore seemed likely that Iceland would achieve a top two finish in the group and be on their way to next year’s European Championships, but it should be noted that all three of Iceland’s wins were on home soil, while the following results dented their hopes significantly.

Back-to-back defeats to Albania 4-2 away and a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to France allowed both Turkey and France back into the race and have ultimately both overhauled Iceland into the top two positions of the group despite Iceland bouncing back with a 2-0 home win against Andorra last time out.

Iceland now must get a result in Turkey on Thursday night but having lost their last 2 away matches on the trot and 3 of their last 4 in Euro qualifiers on the road, this looks a tough task for the visitors.

Key-Facts – Turkey vs Iceland

  • Turkey possess a 100% record at home in Group H to date

  • Iceland have lost 3 of their last away ties in Euro qualifiers

Betting Tips Verdict

Turkey have positive momentum behind them and along with home advantage should secure qualification tonight with a win.
