Preview: Both these teams finished Serie A in style last season, with Udinese closing out with three successive victories and AC Milan managing one better by winning their final four encounters. It was AC Milan, though, who had the greater success in this particular match-up, registering four points and collecting all three in a 1-0 win at the Fruili Stadium, the venue for this Matchday 1 meeting.

Udinese Preview – Hosts bidding to stretch their unbeaten home run?

Some say never look back. Well Udinese did when they installed Croatian Igor Tudor as manager for his second spell in charge and were rewarded big time, with the club retaining its Serie A status on the back of some inspired form in the final two months of the season. Since appointing Tudor in the middle of March, Le Zebrette registered 18 points out of a possible 33 to finish in the relative comfort of mid-table in 12th.

Last season also ended in stylish fashion, by securing wins in all three of their final fixtures against Frosinone (1-3), SPAL (3-2) and Cagliari (1-2). If anything then, the close of the season could not have come at a more inconvenient moment. However, even though the results did undoubtedly improve towards the end, Infolgol still rated the team’s overall process as being poorer than all other sides in the division apart from Parma.

Plenty of work still be done then for Igor Tudor, who remains at the helm on the merit of his ability to turn around the teams fortunes. He will be confident of picking up where his team left off in 2018/19, and perhaps rightly so, as Udinese begin at home where they haven’t lost in the league since January. That is a run of ten games without losing (W6 D4); although, just one of those outcomes was earned against a so-called top team (0-0 with Inter Milan).

Best Udinese Bet: Both Teams to Score @ 10/11 MoPlay? Le Zebrette only failed to score in four of their nineteen league games contested at home last season, though all four were against some of the better sides in the division (Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli) including in a 1-0 loss to matchday opponents AC Milan. Meanwhile, 53% of Udinese’s matches at home produced both teams to score.

AC Milan Preview – Rossoneri seeking fifth consecutive league win?

In the end, 2018-19 was one of bitter disappointment for AC Milan. Yet it was still their strongest campaign in quite some time, finishing in fifth place to narrowly miss out on a top-four placement that would have rewarded them with a return to Champions League football. The good news being that the club hasn’t settled, making several bold moves during the summer’s off-season in a bid to maintain this upward trajectory.

Forward Rafael Leao and defender Theo Hernandez were signed for fees north of £20million from Lille and Real Madrid, respectively, though it was the recruitment of Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer for almost half the price which caught my eye the most. The 21-year-old has the potential to be the bargain of the summer. Furthermore, the decision to finally end the Gattuso experiment and install a manager of more esteem and pedigree looks a case of common sense prevailing.

Former Sampdoria tactician Marco Giampaolo is now onboard and inherits a talented squad, one that was good enough to put together a four match winning run at the very end of the last campaign. Two of those were away from home, in wins at Fiorentina (0-1) and SPAL (2-3), but it was on the road where AC Milan were slightly more susceptible registering five fewer wins in total than back in Milan (2018/19 away record: W7 D7 L5, GF24 GA19).

Best AC Milan Bet: Krzysztof Piatek to Score/ AC Milan to WIN (Score/Win) @ 5/2 SkyBet? The Poland international striker signed for a considerable fee midway through last season and wasted no time acclimatising to his new surroundings, netting nine times in 18 league appearances for AC Milan (he had previously scored 13 in 19 in the first half of the season for Genoa). Five of his goals for Milan were scored on the road.

Udinese V AC MIlan Key Facts:

  • Udinese haven’t lost any of their last ten Serie A home games (W6 D4).
  • AC Milan finished with the fifth-best away record in Serie A last season (W7 D5 L5).
  • Last season’s meetings between these two teams produced a 1-1 draw in Milan and a 1-0 victory for AC Milan in Udine.

Betting Summary

Having ended the previous league season on a high, winning their final three fixtures, Udinese will be reasonably optimistic about their chances of beginning the new term with a positive outcome even if that so happens to be against a side they took just one point from last time around. At home they have not been beaten since January, an unbeaten run spanning ten games (W6 D4).

There is an air of expectation hovering around AC Milan ahead of this new season, after producing some promising stuff and missing out on a top four position by a single point. They also won their final four games to underscore how capable this team are. Some exciting new additions, along with a more proven manager at the helm, are both encouraging.

Udinese often produce at home. However, as impressive as their home form is, more often than not they came up short against the better teams; there were home defeats to Juventus (0-2), Lazio (1-2), Napoli (0-3) and, notably, AC Milan (0-1). Though all were before a new manager was appointed. AC Milan should, however, build on last season’s promise and have every chance of condemning the second-worst team in Serie A last term, according to Infolgol, to defeat.
