Udinese Preview – Can Udinese continue resurgence?
Although it’s been a pretty ordinary campaign so far for Sunday’s hosts, Udinese, in this season’s Italian top flight, the home side have recently seen a turn around in fortunes as they’ve recorded back-to-back wins against Cagliari and Lecce.
These welcome wins and six points have helped lift Udinese away from immediate danger of being dragged down into the relegation zone and now their situation looks a little more promising ahead of this important clash against Sassuolo.
A home record of 4-2-3 7/10 has been reasonable enough in recent times as Udinese have suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 6 matches which was a heavy loss to Roma, but recent wins against Bologna, Torino and Cagliari have handed them a lifeline.
Backing the hosts outright still seems risky though, but 6 of Udinese’s 9 home matches have resulted in under 2.5 goals as goals in general have been a scarce commodity at the Dacia Arena so far this term.
Sassuolo Preview – Can Sassuolo tighten up?
It’s been the exact opposite for visitors, Sassuolo, in terms of recent results as the away side have suffered back-to-back defeats in Serie A, losing to Napoli and Genoa in 2-1 defeats which has resulted in Sassuolo dropping down to 14th place on the Italian top flight ladder.
Sassuolo had previously put together a 4-match unbeaten sequence in Serie A by picking up points in draws with Juventus, Cagliari and AC Milan as well as recording a 2-0 win away from home at Brescia.
However, the recent losses will have put the visitors on notice ahead of this upcoming clash at Udinese, but at least their results on the road have seen an improvement; an away record of 2-3-4 11/13 doesn’t look great but Sassuolo have lost just 1 of their last 6 matches also.
They’ve proved they’ve been hard to beat on their travels in recent weeks but it may be too much to ask for an away win here. Instead, let’s back a low-scoring affair here as I fancy Sassuolo would be happy with a point here in view of their recent defeats.
