Ukraine – Will Ukraine continue their winning start to the Nations League with victory here?
Although football pales into comparison in relation to what is happening in Ukraine at the moment, last week’s defeat at the hands of Wales to prevent them from reaching the World Cup at the end of the year was, still agonising for not just the players and coaching staff, but the country as well. The win over Scotland to set up that playoff final provided some respite and an escape for many, only to narrowly miss out at the final hurdle.
The fact that Andriy Yarmolenko was responsible for scoring the own goal that proved to be the difference only rubbed salt into the wound. Yarmolenko has been a stalwart for the national team for so long – playing 108 times and scoring 45 goals.
Armenia Preview – Can Armenia repeat their heroics of the win over Ireland to stay in the hunt for first place?
Armenia make the journey to Poland to take on Ukraine on the back of a less than inspiring performance against Scotland in Glasgow on Wednesday. After the high of beating Republic of Ireland at the weekend (1-0 win at home), expectation was high that they could trouble their hosts, especially as the Scots were coming off that disappointment of losing to Ukraine and their chance of playing at the World Cup.
As it was, the Armenians could barely lay a glove on Scotland and the 2-0 score line flattered the visitors. They have to regroup now and attempt to get a result in what could be their hardest game of the section away to the group favourites.

Armenia are in the second tier courtesy of winning their group in the last Nations League campaign, winning three and losing just one of their six games. Since that achievement, though, they have struggled for wins – especially on their travels. Defeat to Scotland on Wednesday means it’s now eight with a win away – their last success being over a year ago now.
Although optimism was high following the win over Ireland, success for Armenia in this group would most definitely being staying at this level for the next Nations League campaign.
Ukraine vs Armenia Betting Advice
The big prize for Ukraine may be gone but there has to be some positivity about the fact they are playing football regularly again, even if it’s not where they will hope to be playing. They are fancied to pick up a win in this game and against the Irish a few days later, which would set them up for important clashes with Scotland in September to determine who is likely to finish top.
Key Facts – Ukraine vs Armenia Betting Tip
- Ukraine narrowly missed out World Cup qualification following a 1-0 defeat away to Wales last week
- Armenia have not won any of their last eight away games (last away win in March 2021)
- The game will be played in Lodz due to the ongoing war in Ukraine
Regardless of the team Ukraine put out, I’m confident they will have far too much for an Armenia team who are severely lacking, especially on the road. Back the hosts to win without conceding.
