Second placed Ulsan Hyundai could move level on points with K-League Classic league leaders Jeonbuk Motors if they manage to take all three points in Saturday evening’s clash with bottom club Gwangju FC at their Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium.
Ulsan will no doubt be pleased to return to their home ground following back-to-back away matches at the aforementioned Jeonbuk Motors and Daegu which ended in a 4-0 defeat and a 3-1 win respectively.
Ulsan’s home record stands at a pretty reasonable looking 6-2-2 11/7 and they’ve lost just once in their last eight league matches on home soil. Look out for striker Orisic ( 5 goals) as the hosts look to continue their unbeaten run over Gwangju at home.
Visitors Gwangju FC find themselves bottom of the K-League Classic having picked up just one league win from their last 11 league matches, which was a recent 3-2 home win over Seoul. Indeed, all three of Gwangju’s wins this season have all been at their Gwangju World Cup Stadium, which also includes a 1-0 win over Jeonbuk Motors earlier in the campaign.
However, a poor away record consisting of 0-4-5 6/16 has really undone all the good work they’ve achieved at home, and they come into this encounter having lost three of their last five on the road. Perhaps more worrying is that they’ve failed to score in 5 of their 9 away matches to date.
Gwangju’s shyness in front of goal could be their undoing here, so I’ll back the hosts for the win tonight.
