Ural Preview – Have Uraltsy established a foothold after successive draws?
Beginning this season in much the same way as they did the last are Ural (11th – W0 D2 L1), who at least had the excuse of being assured of safety when seeing out 2019-20 with three consecutive league defeats. The Orange and Black have another opportunity in familiar surroundings. It is, however, worth noting that Ural are now winless on their own patch in four, losing three, while 2019-20 produced only five wins at home (W5 D2 L8). Intriguingly, no team could rival Ural for entertainment inside their own stadium: an average of 3.33 goals per home game was comfortably the highest in the Russian top-flight last season.

It remains early, however, Krasnodar (4th – W2 D0 L1) have made an encouraging start to the new term, at least when compared to their exploits at the tail end of the last league campaign. The Black-Greens endured a stuttering finish to 2019-20, with their eight league fixtures between the resumption, at the end of June, and the season finishing garnering as many losses as it did wins (3) – and it might still end up costing them dearly.
Krasnodar missed out on second spot, and with it automatic qualification into the 2020-21 Champions League group stage. The qualifying rounds await instead. In the meantime, the Premier League has made a brisk return and, after three outings thus far, they can boast a healthy, if imperfect, six points from nine following victories over FC Ufa (0-3) and Arsenal Tula (2-0) either side of losing away to Lokomotiv Moscow (1-0).
Murad Musayev, the Krasnodar manager, is preparing his troops for their third away encounter of the campaign. No doubt looking to record back-to-back away victories in the league for the first time since September 2019. Their away record last time around (W6 D5 L4) was mixed to say the least, while they ended it winning one of their final five said fixtures (W1 D2 L2) in a run which seen them blank on three occasions.
