Welcome to my World Cup 2018 betting tips, and Saturday evening pits the wits between Uruguay and Portugal in the evening knock-out match in the round of 16 in what promises to be an entertaining match.
Uruguay posted a 100% winning record in Group A as the form book ran true with Uruguay topping the group with nine points thanks to wins over Egypt 1-0, Saudi Arabia 1-0 and Russia 3-0 which means they’ve still yet to concede a goal in these World Cup finals, but their defence is sure to come under greater scrutiny against Portugal on Saturday night.
Defender, Diego Godin has marshalled his defence admirably as they’ve kept three clean sheets on the trot in Russia, and indeed the Uruguayans have now kept six clean sheets on the trot which have helped them win their last six matches played on the bounce too.
Attacking midfielder, Bentancur, has been involved in most of Uruguay’s forward play, while the strike pair of Suarez and Cavani are capable of playing havoc with any defence in the world.
Onto Portugal, and they finished runners-up to winners of Group B, Spain, even though both nations ended up on five points apiece, but Spain ended up top due to scoring more goals than the Portuguese.
Portugal’s World Cup plans all went according to their expectations as they held Spain to a 3-3 draw (thanks to Ronaldo’s last-gasp free-kick), which was then followed up with a 1-0 win over Morocco but were then held by Iran in a surprising 1-1 draw in the last group match.
The last result against Iran casts some doubt around Portugal’s ability to negotiate their way past tonight’s opponents, Uruguay, and while the actual winners of this match is by no means guaranteed or clear-cut, we should see both teams hit the back of the net in this clash, so my betting tips system suggests both teams to score.
