USA Prediction- Can USA continue their march towards Final?

United States will line up against relative minnows Curacao on Sunday evening as the hosts look to continue their impressive campaign in the Gold Cup.

The tournament hosts finished top of Group D in the group stages of the competition, by a margin of 3 points ahead of runners-up, Panama.

The States recorded an impressive 3 wins out of 3 during the group stage to hand them a 100% winning record heading into the knock-out phase.

Wins over Guyana 4-0, Trinidad & Tobago 6-0 and a 1-0 win over Panama ensured their progression through to the quarter-finals in emphatic fashion.

They’re still yet to concede a goal in the tournament, while scoring a total of 11 goals within their group record which ended on 3-0-0 11/0.

Indeed, USA are the only team yet to concede a goal in this year’s Gold Cup and they’ll be keen to register another shut-out against Curacao on Sunday night no doubt.

At the business end, forwards Zardes (3 goals) and Boyd (2 goals) along with midfielder Arriola (2 goals) look the most dangerous goal threats.

Curacao Prediction – Can Curacao put a spanner in the works?

Curacao finished runners-up to Jamaica in Group C by the slender margin of just 1 point which means they now have to face the heavily favoured hosts, USA.

An opening group match 1-0 defeat to El Salvador wasn’t the start that Curacao had in mind before this tournament began, but they quickly bounced back.

The chances of Curacao progressing from the group at this stage seemed slim but a 1-0 win over Honduras set the islanders back on track.

A 1-1 draw with Group C winners, Jamaica, in the final match of the group stage was enough to see both nations progress to the last eight.

Overall, Curacao have lost just 2 out of their last 12 matches in all competitions, which were losses to Antigua & Barbuda and El Salvador.

Success is all relative, but while Curacao have registered recent wins against India, Vietnam (on penalties) and Honduras, they’ll face a stern test up next.

It’s been 35 years since Curacao last played USA on the international stage, but USA won that encounter 4-0 back in October 1984.

Key-Facts – USA v Curacao

  • USA held a 100% winning record during the group stages
  • USA have kept 3 clean sheets on the trot and have scored 11 goals to date
  • These two teams haven’t met for 35 years, USA won the last meeting 4-0

Betting Tips Verdict

USA with home advantage will take some stopping and Curacao could be on their way out in convincing style.
