Early pacesetters Vasco da Gama will be hoping to make it four from four when they take on a Gremio who whilst unbeaten have won only one game so far.

Vasco da Gama Preview – Can impressive Vasco continue their 100% start to remain in top spot?

It may be very early in the season but that won’t stop Vasco da Gama’s supporters from getting ahead of themselves. Top of the table with three straight wins, they have played a game less than most but are still setting the pace. Ramon Menezes was the man chosen to take over back in March and he’s had an instant impact since football returned in Brazil.

Vasco have had successive disappointing seasons finishing well down the table but their start will provide some optimism that they can be more productive this time around.

There will be plenty pointing to the standard of opposition that Vasco have faced so far with wins over Ceara (second bottom), Sporting Recife (16th) and Sao Paulo who have taken four points from their first three matches. It may not be the strongest of form but they have done it with minimal fuss, scoring seven goals and conceding just one in the process.

Two players are responsible for six of those seven goals with striker German Cano and Fellipe Bastos scoring three each. Hopes are high that Cano – signed for this campaign – can replicate the form that seen him score 66 goals in two seasons at his former club.

Gremio Preview – Will Gremio get back to winning ways after three straight draws?

If Gremio were to choose one word to describe their start to the season it would most likely be – frustrating. An opening round win against Fluminense got them off to the perfect start but they have been unable to build on that as they would have hoped. Renato Gaucho – who celebrates four years in charge of the club next month – has seen his team share the points with Ceara, Corinthians and Flamengo.

Of course, two of those three clubs are amongst the best Brazil has to offer so they haven’t lost much with draws against them, but there’s no getting away from the fact it is two dropped points against the third of those opponents.

The consistency of Gremio under this coach is quite remarkable with the team finishing in fourth spot in each of the last three seasons. They have cemented themselves as one of the top clubs in the country again but it’s now about making that next step and going for the title.

They are a team built very much on their strong defence having not conceded less than 40 goals in the last three seasons and always having one of the best defences in the division under this coach.

Vasco da Gama vs Gremio Betting Advice

Whilst it’s Vasco who have made the better start and are at home, there is little between these two teams with regards to the prices for the game. That’s testament to how well Gremio have done over the last few seasons and they have fared better in this fixture, too. Gremio have won the last three against Vasco who have won two of the last three meetings when at home.

Key Facts – Vasco da Gama vs Gremio Betting Tip

  • Ramon Menezes has had a really impressive start to his time at Vasco since taking over in March
  • Gremio started the season with a win but have been held to draws in all their other games since
  • It’s Gremio who have held the upper hand in this fixture recently, winning the last three meetings

Nobody has scored more than Vasco so far but Gremio’s measly defence could well stop them in this game. You sense that the visitors are not far away form picking up three points going by their results against the champions and Corinthians. That makes them worth a bet at the prices.
