Verona Preview – Can Verona continue their excellent season by winning and leapfrogging opponents?

There may still be 12 games to go in Serie A but Verona are undoubtedly have a great campaign and don’t look like falling away anytime soon. Ivan Juric took over the club last summer and the Croatian has had an instant impact on a team who only won promotion last season. Verona currently sit in seventh spot which would equate to qualifying for next season’s Europa League.

They are two points better off than Parma and Milan who are leading the charge below them, whilst being only a point behind Napoli in sixth spot. The fact they are in contention for Europe and competing against some of these clubs is an indication of just how good they’ve been.

Verona’s last game before lockdown was a disappointing defeat at home to Sampdoria but that is their only defeat in their last 11 league games, where they have won five of them. Four of those wins have come at home showing how strong they are. And famously, one of those wins that 2-1 victory against Juventus.

It was a winning return as well as Verona defeated Cagliari 2-1 on Saturday, despite playing most of the game with 10 men. Samuel Di Carmine was the hero scoring both goals and taking his tally to five for the season.

Napoli Preview – Are Napoli set to build on Coppa Italia success for a strong finish to the Serie A campaign?

There has been no shortage of drama and controversey in Naples this year. A mutiny amongst the players in response to criticism from the club’s owner eventually ended with the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti. Rino Gattuso was far from a popular choice to take charge of the team whilst their key players were virtually being earmarked for moves away from the club.

Now, following that three month break due to the coronavirus, Napoli are celebrating their first trophy since 2014 and all is much more positive. The win on penalties over Juventus last Wednesday could be a significant turning point in not only this season but what lies ahead.

As they are 12 points behind Atalanta who are currently fourth, qualification for the Champions League looks beyond Napoli barring a collapse from teams above them. However there appears to be much more desire within the squad now to reach the levels they are capable of.

That bodes well not only for the rest of the Serie A season but also for the Champions League when that resumes. Napoli will face Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 with the tie at 1-1. It’s definitely not beyond them to get a result in that match to progress.

Verona vs Napoli Betting Advice

This is set to be a really interesting clash with two teams who find themselves in similar positions having had very different expectations at the beginning of the season. Verona would have taken survival following promotion last season whilst Napoli were considered to be title contenders.

The fact there is just one point behind them shows how unpredictable Serie A has been this season.

Key Facts – Verona vs Napoli Betting Tip

    • It’s four straight league wins at home for Verona coming into this game, including a famous win over Juventus
    • Napoli are looking for their fourth straight away win in the league for the first time since December 2018
    • The team from Naples have won the last six meetings against Verona

Napoli were too good for Verona when the sides met back in October. That 2-0 win was a sixth straight success for the Naples club in this fixture but they know they’ll have to work in order to make that seven.

There is a hunger to this Napoli team that was not there at the beginning of the campaign and they will be raring to go after the Coppa Italia success. Gattuso will be looking to lead his team to four straight away wins in the league for the first time in 18 months and I’m backing them to do it.
