After a difficult period of fixtures which saw them lose three matches on the trot in La Liga, Villarreal have since managed to bounce back with back-to-back wins over Celta Vigo and Valencia, both away from home, ahead of tonight’s clash with struggling Deportivo La Coruna.
Recent defeats to Sevilla, Leganes and Barcelona threatened to de-rail Villarreal’s european hopes, but the two wins away from home have set them back on course and they currently occupy sixth place in the Spanish top flight just two points behind Sevilla, with a game in hand.
Villarreal hold a reasonable home record which stands at 4-1-2 14/6, and although they’ve lost their last two on home turf to Sevilla and Barcelona, they’ll still be confident that they can grab all three points against Deportivo with four clean sheets to date under their belts.
Deportivo La Coruna sit third from bottom in La Liga but are level on points with Deportivo Alaves who are just one position above them thanks to a slightly better goal difference. Much of La Coruna’s limited success so far this season has been achieved at their Estadio Municipal de Riazor where they’ve won three of their four wins so far this season.
However, an away record of 1-2-5 9/18 tells its own story, and this also includes having lost their last three on the road on the trot as they’ve slumped to defeats at Malaga, Sevilla and Barcelona, with just one clean sheet on their travels all season so far.
In addition, Deportivo have conceded two goals or more six times within their eight away matches overall, so this could be a long night for the visitors.
