Villarreal Preview – Can Villarreal bounce back?
It had been a fairly solid start to their new La Liga season up until the weekend when Villarreal were handed a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at Barcelona, but they now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Estadio de la Cerámica where they’ll be looking to bounce back with all three points against early La Liga strugglers, Deportivo Alaves.
An opening day 1-1 draw with Huesca was followed by a 2-1 home win over Eibar which saw Villarreal take four points from their opening two matches of the new season, which were both played on home turf.
Villarreal’s results at home have been fairly steady overall as the hosts have lost just three of their last 11 matches at the Estadio de la Cerámica while also winning their last two encounters on the trot against Wednesday’s visitors, Alaves, in a 2-1 win away from home and a resounding 4-1 victory in the last meeting at home.
Deportivo Alaves Preview – Can Alaves get off the mark?
Three matches into this new La Liga season and Wednesday’s visitors, Deportivo Alaves, are still looking for their first league win of the new term and they head into this difficult looking clash with Villarreal having picked up just one point to date.
Early back-to-back defeats against Real Betis and Granada were a setback for Deportivo Alaves who will be desperate to avoid another relegation battle this season but although they stopped the bleeding with a 0-0 draw at home with Getafe on the weekend, it looks like Alaves will have to gear up for another tough season in the lower reaches of La Liga.
The bigger picture shows that Alaves have managed to register just one win from their last 12 matches overall while they’ve collected just one away win from their last 10 on the road which includes losing seven of these (five of which were to nil).
