Wales get their UEFA Euro 2020 tournament underway with a Group A game against Vladimir Petkovic’s Switzerland at the Olympic Stadium in Baku on Saturday afternoon. Wales shocked the footballing world when they reached the semi-finals in France five years ago. The UEFA Euro 2016 tournament was their first ever European competition in their history. The Dragons topped the group then beat Belgium in the knockouts before losing to eventual winners Portugal in the semi-final.
After opening up their tournament with a game against the Swiss, Wales then have two tough tests against Turkey and Italy. Still, they are in decent form and will fancy their chances of causing a few upsets along the way.

Vladimir Petkovic’s Switzerland could be dark horses at this summer’s Euros. The Swiss are in stunning form, winning each of their last six matches since a 1-1 UEFA Nations league draw with Spain back in November.
In their last match, the Red Crosses thumped Liechtenstein 7-0 in a friendly. Prior to that, Petkovic’s troops had picked up successive wins over Ukraine, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Finland and USA. A seventh victory in a row this weekend will put them well on their way to the last 16 of Euro 2020.

Switzerland had their best Euros to date in the last one in France, getting out of their group and reaching the Round of 16 stage. They will be looking to go even further this time around.

These two nations went head-to-head in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying ten years ago. The Swiss thumped the Welsh in their home game, with Valentin Stocker helping himself to a brace in a 4-1 romp. However, Wales got revenge on home turf, with Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale netting in a 2-0 Dragons victory. That was Wales’ first win over the Swiss since 1951.
