Wasps have not had too much to cheer about this season in Premiership Rugby. But they did land four points last weekend.

That snapped a long losing run that they had been on in the top flight. But will they be able to back it up on Saturday?

It is Sale Sharks who come to visit. While they are steaming along with some great home form, they have had a couple of recent wobbles on the road.

Wasps Preview – Can Wasps land back to back wins?

There was a narrow success for Wasps last weekend on a visit to Kingston Park against Newcastle Falcons.

It was a two-point margin victory that Wasps took in that one.

But it got them out of a funk of four straight league defeats at least and they will look to build from there.

They are narrow underdogs only for this fixture on the weekend at home against Sale Sharks.

The next target for them will be to break their losing home streak?

It has been four straight losses at the Ricoh for Wasps since beating Exeter in early January.

So far this season on home soil, Wasps have picked up a record of just W2 L5.

The two successes in that sequence were against Exeter and Bristol Bears, who are the current top-two in the league.

In that regard, it has been something of a strange season for Wasps at the Ricoh Arena.

They have let some other, more winnable fixtures slip them a bit.

Looking at their margins of defeat at home this season, four of the five were by 10 points or fewer.

Three of their five home losses were by a margin of no more than six points.

The bookmakers are certainly expecting a really tight scrap on the weekend.

Earlier this season Wasps visited Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell and came close to the four points.

They lost there by a three-point margin only.

The last time that they lost both games in a league season against the Sharks was in the 2010/11 Season.

But, there is a little caveat to that because Wasps have lost their last two home games against Sale at the Ricoh.

While they did break out of their slump last weekend, there is probably going to be further improvement needed for them to take this home game.

Sale Sharks Preview – Will the Sharks avoid their third straight away defeat?

Thing’s have not gone great for Sale Sharks on the road, as they have lost their last two such fixtures.

Those particular reverses happened at Harlequins and Northampton. Not the easiest of away games to be fair.

But the overall form in the league for Sale Sharks has been positive. They have won three of their last four played.

In the Premiership rugby betting outright winner market, Sale are the narrow favourites to earn four points.

The last time that they lost three league games in a row away from home, was in December 2019.

Can they get that elusive season-double completed over Wasps for the first time in a decade?

The overall record for Sale this season is W9 L5 which left them in the top four after the last round of action.

Sale Sharks have taken a W4 L3 record on their league travels this season and most of those matches have been tight affairs.

Only one of their road games have been settled by a margin of more than 10 points and that was a 24-12 loss at Harlequins.

Of the four away wins that they have taken though, three of them have been by a margin of at least seven points.

In each of their four away victories this season, Sale Sharks have scored at last 20 points.

For punters looking to back the away win, the extra value for the -1 handicap on the visitors may as well be looked at.

There has been an average of 18 points scored per away game by Sale this season.

So that should get them close to a result at the Ricoh on the weekend. But the key difference between them could be in defence.

Sale Sharks have been a lot better in that regard this season.

So they should have a fair chance of keeping the hosts at arm’s length to some degree.

On their last five visits to the Ricoh, Sale have posted a W2 L3. But they are seeking that third straight win there.

Wasps vs Sale Sharks Betting Advice

This should be an exciting, tight encounter. Sale Sharks will be looking for some revenge after losing at home to Wasps earlier this season.

The game really looks a toss up, but we are going with Sale Sharks and there is enough there in the Sale -1 handicap to play at for even money * (odds recorded 19:28 GMT on March 25th, 2021)

That rugby betting option may as well come into play against the outright market.
