Watford Prediction – Can Watford make top half?

Watford saw their challenge for a 7th place finish in last season’s Premier League fall by the wayside towards the end of last term.

Javi Gracia’s side enjoyed a solid and successful season of stability in their last campaign, but their dreams of Europe quickly evaporated at the end.

3 defeats on the trot to Wolves, Chelsea and West Ham put paid to a Europa League appearance and marred an otherwise acceptable season for The Hornets.

The London club ended the season on a disappointing note as they registered just 2 wins from their final 9 matches of the season, so they’ll be keen for a good start here.

The victories were against a down-and-out Fulham outfit and already relegated Huddersfield Town, and Gracia will be aware that they need to make the most of Vicarage Road this term.

The Hornets ended with an overall home record last season of 8-3-8 26/28 which included losing 3 of their last 4 on home turf to Arsenal, Wolves and West Ham.

Watford manager has bolstered his defensive unit with the signing of former West Brom defender, Craig Dawson, while adding former Arsenal forward, Welbeck to his front line.

Attacking options for Watford include the likes of Deulofeu (10 goals), Deeney (9 goals) and Gray (7 goals).

13 of Watford’s 19 home matches resulted in over 2.5 goals which is no surprise given Watford’s ability to score and concede goals in equal measure!

Brighton Prediction – Can Brighton avoid relegation battle?

A fourth from bottom finish at the end of last season’s Premier League campaign was a little too close for comfort for Brighton owner, Tony Bloom.

Former manager, Chris Hughton, was shown the door after The Seagulls avoided the drop by a mere 2 points, as well as the wish for a more attacking style of play.

To Hughton’s credit, he steered Brighton to promotion from the Championship up to the Premier League but a run of poor results ultimately cost him his job on the south coast.

With just 3 wins from their last 23 matches in the Premier League it seemed a new direction was needed and former Swansea City manager, Graham Potter was appointed.

This seems a bold move by Brighton who are putting their trust in a manager that has spent just 1 season in the Championship and has never managed in the Premier League before.

Potter brings with him the promise of a more attacking approach for Brighton who finished last season with a home record of 6-5-8 19/28.

Only Huddersfield Town (10 goals) scored fewer than Brighton at home last season, but the concern is Brighton’s defence on the road in the top flight.

An away record of 3-4-12 16/32 included just 2 clean sheets under the more defensive and conservative leadership of Chris Hughton.

With Potter promising a more attacking and expansive style of play, surely The Seagulls are opening themselves up for further punishment?

10 of Brighton’s 19 away matches resulted in over 2.5 goals but an ageing Glenn Murray needs new signing, Neil Maupay, to hit the ground running.

Betting Tips Verdict

Watford will go for it here in their first home match of the season and will sense that Brighton could be here for the taking as they adjust to Potter’s new regime.
