A-League Betting at bet365

Wellington Phoenix Prediction

Wellington Phoenix have put together a solid run of results in recent weeks in the A-League as the hosts are unbeaten in their last nine matches overall which includes a 3-1 win away at tonight’s opponents, Sydney FC, back in early December.

Wellington’s undefeated run has strengthened their position in the top six of the A-League and now hold a comfortable 11-point cushion ahead of 7th placed Newcastle Jets and barring an absolute catastrophe, the hosts should now qualify for the Finals play-offs.

Wellington’s results at home have also seen a significant improvement as their home record now stands at a much more respectable looking 4-1-2 13/11 which includes winning their last three home matches on the trot with wins against Central Coast Mariners (twice) and Brisbane Roar.

Confidence is building as each match passes as manager Mark Rudan prepares to face his old club again and no doubt keen to repeat another win against the visitors. Forwards Krishna (11 goals) and Williams (4 goals) are the hosts danger men up front.

Key-Facts – Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC

  • Wellington Phoenix are unbeaten in their last 9 matches in the A-League
  • Wellington Phoenix have won their last 3 home matches on the trot
  • Sydney lost their last encounter to Wellington Phoenix 3-1 at home

Sydney FC Prediction

Sydney FC sit in third place and two league positions and six points ahead of Wellington Phoenix as they prepare for their trip ‘across the ditch’ to New Zealand for Wednesday night’s clash against their Kiwi counterparts.

Sydney have also impressed in recent weeks as they’ve registered six wins from their last seven matches, and the difference between Wellington Phoenix and Sydney in recent times is that the visitors have been able to provide that cutting edge that has won more league matches than their hosts to date (3 more in fact).

Things were also going very well away from home too as the visitors had put together a six-match unbeaten run, up until they went across to the other side of Australia to face Perth Glory a second time that is – the fixture scheduling didn’t do Sydney any favours with two trips to Western Australia in relatively quick succession, and although they won the first encounter 2-1, they were quickly avenged with a 3-1 defeat to Glory last time out on their travels.

Forwards Le Fondre (11 goals) and Brosque (6 goals) are Sydney’s main goal threats.

Betting Tips Verdict

This clash sees two of the in-form teams go head-to-head again and seem fairly well matched. I’ll give the nod to Wellington with the handicap here.
